MJK Media 0 Posted May 25, 2006 I am on my post op liquid diet and yesterday I had an episode where it fel like I was going to pass out. but of course I held it together, has anyone else had a similiar experience?
GayleTX 1 Posted May 25, 2006 Sounds like your sugar may be falling low. Are you diabetic? On diabetic meds? Even if you're not, your sugar level may bounce up and down. Have you got a way to check it?
giveyouthemoon 4 Posted May 25, 2006 I did get dizzy post op but didn't know if it was the liquids or residuals from anesthesia. They say it takes a good couple weeks to get all of the anesthesia out of your system. Take it easy, ok? No running around. You aren't pushing it are you? TIDGE 0 Posted May 25, 2006 Sounds like low blood sugar to me too - I used to get this A LOT along with a hot sweat, and trembles. Hot sweet tea and a 10 min lie down will sort it out.
Jachut 487 Posted May 25, 2006 I had several bouts of fainting on the pre-op, post-op liquid phase. Pre-op my doc told me to just stop the Optifast as I didnt have a fatty enlarged liver anyhow, and had a BMI of 35. He said it just didnt matter enough if it was doing that to me. Post Op I ditched the Optifast, juice and Water routine and made some more hearty Soups that contained Protein and carbs - like a lentil and vegetable Soup, and liquifying spaghetti bolognaise with a tin of tomatoes so it was soupy, I did just fine on that sort of food and was able to make it liquid enough for the various stages of recovery - ie. I had "real" food in liquid form, not a steady diet of yogurt and custard. I only had to do two days of Clear Liquids though.
LapBandit 5 Posted May 27, 2006 I had, and still do if I bend over too quickly, slight dizziness. My doc said that it takes most people up to 6 weeks before the effects of anesthiesia (SP) completely leave the system. But, I'd agree with the others and have your sugar checked to be safe! Good luck!
PhotoNut 7 Posted May 27, 2006 Hey MJK, are you getting enough Protein in your diet? You might just need more "food". Can you give us an example of a day's food intake?
MJK Media 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Yes, I am now in my mushie stage and haven't had any as of yet, but still monitoring it. I am able to take down hearty Soups and stuff without liquifying it so I am wondering if I am ready for a fill. after 5 weeks of liquids the cambells chicken and rice is like a filet mignon! oooh wee it is soo good. I think Iw as pushing my self a little hard trying to heal quickly. I will continue monitoring and let you know. I was thinking that it might have been the cappucino I had, so i am kind of scared to drink coffee again, anyone else have issues with coffee now?
MoOrLess 0 Posted June 2, 2006 I don't drink coffee....but as a diabetic I definitely get dizzy when my sugar is too low..............5 weeks of liquids? I guarantee your blood sugar is too low - then you drank the cappucino and it came back up - maybe too fast? then dropped again - that would then make you dizzy. Not a doctor - just a thought. Go ahead and drink your coffee I say!
PhotoNut 7 Posted June 2, 2006 Five weeks of liquids. Geesh. You must have some kinda will power buddy! hehe Hope you are feeling better and I know how good those mushies tasted after just 2 weeks on liquids.. You must be in Heaven!
Tricia K. 0 Posted June 2, 2006 I get dizzy every now and then. It happens mostly when I stand up too quickly. I am properly hydrated and get plenty of Protein in my diet. I've had my sugar levels checked and everything is nomal.
