I dont know what Dr. Aceves is charging now...but I paid $8,750 for everything and was able to write it all off on my taxes...so technically it cost much less!

He is a gem...I am so glad that I chose him and his hospital!

Kris

ps....if i had used my local surgeon it would have been 30K and only one night in the hospital! Ohhhhhh and my surgeon in nj had done under 5 VSG's...duh!~

:001_wub:I had my sleeve done by Dr. Aceves of Feb. 9, 2010. I did not do well with the anesthesia and Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos were WONDERFULL!!! They came to see me many times during the day and evening. Dr. Campos even came in 7 times in one day. Dr. Aceves wanted me to stay an additional two days so they could keep an eye on me, this was at NO EXTRA CHARGE. I did not want to stay and I did go home on my 5th day, 4 days after my surgery date. Dr. Campos called me the next morning to check and see how I was doing after the flight home. I could not recommend them more highly. You couldn't find a cleaner hospital anywhere and I have never had an American hospital give me the kind of care they gave me at Almater Hospital in Mexicali.

The sleeve was $8750.00 in January and the first couple of weeks in February for those they couldn't squeeze in and had to do in Feb. Now the cost is $9500.00. This is still a bargain compared to self pay prices in the USA.

Hi Stcyt - I am going to Dr. Aceves on April 6th. I was going to go last June for $9000. Then I cancelled last minute. I've been back and forth with poor Nina, the patient coordinator, a hundred times. When I decided to go ahead and get the surgery again, (In early March), I was still able to get the $8750 price for my April date. So, I don't know. You might want to try asking for a discount like I did. I am financing most of my surgery through My Medical Loan. I think they have a website you can apply. (not sure if that's an option or not).

If you have your surgery done in Mexico, you can still claim it on your taxes in the US?

Also did you all have to get a passport and what is involved in that?

I don't see any reason why you could not claim it on taxes. You have to bring a cashiers check, and you would have proof of how you got the cashiers check from a bank.

I am trying to determine what the overall cost would be to go to Dr. Aceves. On top of the surgery cost, there will also be the flight etc. that you mentioned which we must pay for too. I am not sure that would be any cheaper for me considering that. I have two doctors here in Texas who will do the sleeve. One is around 10,000 and one 12,000. I can drive there as it is about 5 hours away. I wonder if it is better for me to do that once I figure in flight etc. info

The only extra expenses you have with Dr. Aceves is your dinner the night before surgery and food for whoever accompanies you if you bring someone.

Everything else was covered..transport to and from airport, hotel, preop tests, 3 nights in the hospital and he sends you home with 2 weeks of meds.

Create a few expense lists and see which is less...BUT make sure your doc in US has experience and compare hospital stays as well!

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
