How does restriction feel ???

Recommended Posts

I was banded March 7th 2006 and had my first fill of 3.2cc last thursday. I have hardly felt restriction and just keep looking at the scars thinking 'were they really worth it' !

I was told liquids for a week then mushies another week. liquids lasted 2 days and mushies another 2. I havent pushed it but I dont feel full or satiated when i eat foods and would like to know how it feels to be nicely restricted and feeling like youve eaten enough...

:help:

I was banded on March 10th and am on my second fill. I definitely feel something on this one, felt NOTHING on my first fill. I know I will need one more though and hopefully that will be it and I will be at my sweet spot. I feel the beginning of restriction so things are getting better. You will get there too--we just have to remember to be patient at this. Good luck!!!

I was banded 2/16 and didn't feel no restriction so I asked the same question that you are asking to my fellow bandsters here. They told me the same thing that they are telling you. Hang in there. So me I was desperate tought the same thing like you; Was this worth it??

Well girl let me tell you something I remember the day like it was yesterday. I got my first fill march 15. The doctor put 2.6 and he said he takes it easy on people for first fill. Yeah right!!. Didn't feel a thing until march 24th when i tried to eat a nice piece of Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich. OH MY GOD was it painfull like on my 4th bite. I tought I chew it really well. Then I call my friend she had the band for a while and she told me, Guess what that was a restriction honey. I felt it. I couldnt eat nomore I was full plus I over did it. So girl so take it easy you will know when you get a restriction. Because now I don't even touch bread I don't look at it, smell it nothing. Band for life.

Also I felt it on my first fill wich some people do some people don't. So just be patience.

Hope this helps you out.

Hey Forestgranger, sounds like you have the VG band. Those often take a bit longer to find that sweet spot of restriction that makes all the difference in the world.

While it's good to allow a week or so to let the fill settle in (some people have said they didn't feel the restriction for a week or more after the fill) you should keep in good communication with your Dr. and let him know if you're hungry so you don't waste weeks and weeks of time. It wasn't all for nothing, and it won't happen over night, but it WILL happen. You hang in there. :)

Thanks to all of yoU!! I so needed to read this thread, I don't have my first fill until June 13th. I have been very hungry lately and fill like I can eat anything. (I limit myself but it's taking willpower!!) I was loosing really fast at first and now things have come to STOP!! I have spent the last 2 days just reading different threads and I feel so much better now. I am still discouraged but I now know that these feelings are normal. I weighed in at 282 a month before surgery and I am now 241. The most frustrating thing is I have lost and regained the last 3lbs, about 3x's in the past 3 weeks!! I am hoping that once I get a fill, that feeling of fullness will be back. I love the support from this website, thanks so much for all of your input!!!!

I am so grateful to have this websight, i have been really depressed and wondering what is wrong with me, I am 1 month today and have had 1 fill 1.2cc but it didn't last very long, 1 day and I could eat like normal Soups salads, some fish etc, but i am not losing as fast, 12lbs in 30days, I am calling my doctor tommorow for another fill, and I don't know what kind of band I have! does it make a difference about what kind of band you have? thanks for all the encouragement to all of us new people, I didn't know what to expect!!!

Your doctor may not give you a fill if you have lost 12 lbs in the last 30 days because that is WAY faster than is reccomended--1 to 2 lbs a week. I would hold off of on the fill if you are losing that fast. My doctor won't fill me if I am losing 8 lbs in a month or more. You are definitely NOT a slow loser. Congratulations!

Just my 2 cents worth.... It is very normal not to feel restriction after only one fill. They don't normally put in very much the first time and you have to realize the Fluid they do put in might very well be just in the tubing going to the band and it takes several fills sometimes to get the much wanted restriction. I have the VG band and it took about 4 fills for me to finally start feeling restriction, so hang in there, you are perfectly normal. You probably won't ever feel "full" on the liquid and mushies part of the diet. That is normal too. Hang in there, this band is the best thing in my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I agree with Brenda. I to have the VG band and I went in for my 9th fill on yesterday. I did not start feeling that fullness until I had reached that 6th fill and I was discouraged. The 5 to 6 pounds I was lossing every month was a struggle but wen I got to #7 I had to go back and have some removed. Now when I go in I get .2 ccs each time, that's about all I can take for at least 6 to 8 weeks and sometimes longer.

Be patient, it will come. Sometimes we forget why we got the band instead of the other types of surgeries. This is a tool and we must do our part or the band will not work for us.

Surgery date 5-11-09. I am not on a pre-sx diet yet. I've been advised to prepare by implementing some of the changes that the sx will require me to make. Sipping Water slowly & regularly is going to be a big change. I go go go until I'm so thirsty, then tank myself up on 16- 20 oz. of water. I am practising chewing well and not eating between meals. Trying not to stress eat is an eye opener! The closer I get though, the more I find myself behaving as if I'm having my "last meal." I'm overeating all sorts of crap and telling myself I won't be doing this much longer....

Any takers on this post? How did you prepare mentally/emotionally? Beth

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
