is it possible to go down from size 22 to size 14??

Recommended Posts

hi all dea friends,

today I have been shopping. I was size 22 presurgery. now after one month. size 22 is really lose and baggy. I am so ashamed of it. may be I need size 20 by now. I don't want to go shopping though until I drop more pounds. today I was looking size 14 in promod and I was so nieve and insisted to try one jeans size 14 on:) I saw all kind of strange looks but I did not care...lol...anyway, I was very disappointed. the jeans could not go beyond my BIG toe:)

is it possible that someone who was size 20-22 one day to be really able to wear jeans size 14 one day!! plz let me know if it is possible? that will be my dream. Jeans size 14 can be found everywhere.

I always had a big wide hips and big butt.

have a good day everybody.

uh sweetie....I'm pretty sure that with the appropriate weight loss and exercise you can eventually fit into an even smaller size than a 14! I'm currently in a 22/24, I have a pair of size 18 jeans in my closet that I was nearly into about 18 months ago....my goal is to be in those by May (surgery date Dec 14). So I'm confident that those 14's will be sliding over your bod in no time! Be patient, follow the eating plans, exercise and prepare to be amazed.

Yep - it's not only possible, it's probable ... I was in a 20/22w before surgery and now can get into an 16W or an 18 (not W) and those are getting lose on me ... so believe it, OWN it and you'll be there before you know it -- DON'T sabotage yourself though - instead of trying on the 14 ... go to an 18W - you'll be surprised with the difference, then when those get loose - shoot for a smaller size.

Remember -- you didn't gain this weight overnight and it's not going to come off overnight (although it comes off quicker than without WLS)

yes dearest vegasangel. you are right. I will get a smaller size (18 w or 20)for now. I hate this baggy size 22 trousers on me. every time I drop a size, I will get a new one.

It's totally doable. I started off at a super tight 22W, should of been in a 24W, and today I'm wearing a regular 14, or 15 (in juniors).

I didn't buy clothes until I got to an 18, but those only lasted a month. I was in a 16 for a couple of months, but now they're falling off of me. So, I had to break down and buy some size 14. I went from a 26/28 (3-4X) top to a Medium in most tops, some Larges depending on the cut of the shirt.

Ya'll are all so funny! All of you newbies... I was a 16/18 and am now a 4 in most things after 2 years and 8 months... You will all be amazed at your transformations through the next year, I promise! I hit a size 4 after 9 or 10 months after my sleeve and am still there...

Sweetie, you will be there before you know it! I started out in a 22-24 in the beginning of July, today I just bought my second pair of size 8's (although they are both very tight), but wear mainly a 10/12 bottom and large top. Have fun shopping!!!

Sizes seem so small when you wear a large one. But your size 14 is our 16 to 18 and even though I'm 5ft 10, for me, that's still rather LARGE. I'm straining the high end of my healthy weight range to wear a 16 and 18 is overweight, I was last an 18 at about 185lb. Way too heavy for my 5ft 10. At a healthy 150lb for my 5ft 10, I'm wearing an 8 in US sizes.

So like Vegas says, its PROBABLE, not just possible that you'll be even smaller than a size 14 at a healthy weight. Most women are smaller than me and have healthy weights under 150lb and that would place a good percentage of them at less than a 14.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
