Is this hunger pangs?

You said you were going to post something about your experience in Mexico. I'm interested in hearing your story. I go to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali on Dec. 19th for the sleeve. I've heard tons of great things about him and have no fears about going. Who was your doctor? Did you have any problems aside from your incision?

Are you on an acid blocker?

VSG patients are supposed to be on

an acid blocker for the first 6 months.

Hi Daisy, Can you tell me if your mouth and tongue dry out overnight and if so is it a side effect of the protonix? I stopped taking the prilosec because I couldn't stand how dried out I would wake up in the middle of the night.....and that is with sleeping with my mouth closed.

KitR - welcome to VST - we are happy to have you join our family. Congrats on having your surgery scheduled with Dr. Aceves - you will love, love, love him and his staff- they are awesome. If you have any specific questions about the process with Dr. A, feel free to PM me and I will be happy to answer them for you. I had my surgery on 6/12 and my fiance had his on 7/11 -- both with Dr. Aceves.

I believe that it's actually hunger. I'm exactly the same and it's not acid reflux or indigestion cause I take my medication for that and when I forget to sometimes, I get indigestion and it's a different sensation. I first noticed the feeling a little while after the surgery, when I'd wake up first thing in the morning especially. My doctor says the sensation is a little different for everyone - because the portion of the stomach that removed produces the hunger hormone ghrelin - for some it may be an emptiness for others it's a rumbling. Plus the hunger every two to three hours thing is the same thing for me and sometimes I worry that I won't lose much weight at all - but I know that in comparison to what I was eating before it's only a fraction.

Hi Paula, Did your doctor explain to you why you will need to stay on nexium for one year?

Hi I feel hungry every few hours it really dissapoints me that I feel this way but I am hoping that it will settle down once I am back on solid food, I also take PPI meds but have to stop them at 6 weeks after surgery, 1 more week to go, I don;t have any acid issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
