JSM 1 Week Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Today I'm one week post-op and feel almost back to normal. The hospital experience was not bad. My pain level was pretty low (0 - 1). My main complaint was I just could not get comfortable. I also experienced nausea before and after the leak test. I would have to say that was the worse. Didn't loose it, but felt close. After I was off the IV and on oral pain meds, I felt so much better. I was home in my own bed the evening after surgery.

The week has been pretty smooth. I'm on full liquids, so I'm living on mashed up cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, applesauce and Tomato Soup, Water and herbal tea. I think I may go out and look for a clear Protein Drink. I'm not tolerating the Atkins advantage shakes (just don't like them anymore).

I'm a little disappointed that I've only lost 2.5 lbs post op, but I do know that I've lost inches when I put on some of my clothes. The weather is pretty suckie (feels like I need to build an ark). I did get out over the weekend and took several nice strolls around the neighborhood, but now we are back in the rain mode. I do several laps around the house to keep moving.

I've not had much head hunger which is good. However, there is a taco bell commercial for the cheesy gordito crunch that has sparked my interest. This is so strange, since I may eat taco bell once a year. Go figure. I am looking forward to starting mushies next week. I can't wait to try some tuna or chicken salad.

I'm not too worried about Thanksgiving dinner. I know I can stick to my full liquid stage. My thanks is that this will be the last year that I'm fat!

Thanks to everyone for your support and friendship! I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hugs and Blessings,

JoAnne

JoAnne - so glad to hear that you are doing well and are on the road to recovery ... if you can find a way to divert that rain to Las Vegas, we'd be happy to take it ... can't even remember the last time it rained here.

I wish you and your family a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

Keep us posted on your progress...each day will get better and better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
