Ok.. I'm officially a week from surgery tomorrow and tonight when my family ate dinner I noticed that I really missed the food.. I really wanted to just have one noodle and one bite of ham... is this normal? The urge wasn't like it used to be but suddenly these liquid are really bland. I'm concerned that it will be super hard to stay on full liquids but know I have to.. how do you cope?

suggestions... :)

I think it's very normal - when I was in the hospital and Bearded came in with an ice cream -- I told him that was something he was not going to be able to eat around me. Then he had a hamburger and fries - they smelled so good - but I didn't crave them ...

One way to deal with it might be to eat before the family so you're not tempted when they eat. Also, you might want to fix meals ahead of time so you don't have to be involved in fixing meals while you're on liquids.

Also you need to remember that you've just had major surgery and that you have to stick to the liquid diet in order to avoid injuring your stomach and causing a leak.

It is a short period of time - it doesn't last forever - you can do anything for a short period of time!!!

yes it is normal but it will go away by time. remember with the sleeve you will be a normal person very soon. your portions will just get smaller. it takes time to cope. for me the most difficult thing is to correlate between my hunger and what I can eat. I still feel that I can eat like before which is not true at all. so sometimes I am learning my lesson the hard way. I am trying to write down the portions sizes exactly which caused no discomfort for me. and bring different small plate sizes and Soup dishes.

Yes- this is very normal- and you'll also find that things you once loved, now not so much and vise versa.

Just take your time and introduce new foods slow- and if they don;t agree with you, try again in a month.

G'luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
