Hi-

I've been here looking for support and advice for a couple weeks. I'm now on liquids only and I'm a bit confused... I was so excited at my pre-op appointment I didn't "hear" everything the doc said. Can I have sugar-free Jello? Does the color matter? I'm pretty sure he said Protein Shakes would be fine... I seem to be having more of these duhh! moments the closer I get to surgery day.

Thanks-

I think that your surgeon will probably give you written diet plan which answers your questions. I could have sugar free Jello and popsicles starting on day 5 after surgery. Color won't matter once you are home although in hospital they usually avoid red coloring in case you vomit they won't mistake it for blood. Good luck with your surgery!

Head to toe, welcome to the forum and on your upcoming surgery. For post op diet and general information Vegas has put together a great page for us pre op sleevers. Just search Vegas post op diet and it should pop up. It covers everything and was so helpful to me and all in one place. There are so many here to help with all your questions. Good luck!

Two days before surgery I had to do clear liquid diet. This included sugar free Jello and popsicles, but not Protein Drinks (at least the kind I was using). I would call the surgeon's office in the morning to double check or maybe look back through any handouts they gave you. You are so close now:-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
