A little scared here:

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 months out. No problem, eating small amounts slowly etc. Minor indigestion problems... Until today

I ate a sausage too fast, and I vomited. It came up red. (now I had had some ketchup on the sausage, so I'm hoping it was that).. It was, however, a very bright red and blood-like color.

Is it possible to tear something this far out? What symptoms will I get if I've really damaged something here?

Anything could be possible, but if I were you, I would go to the doctor to get yourself checked out. . . how do you feel now? Nauseated? if your feeling really nauseated it could have been blood, have you vomited again? Please go to the doctor. . . sorry I can't help much. . .

Please try not to be scared. It was probably the ketchup. See how some gentle and mushie food over this weekend and if you have any signs of vomiting and/or blood than I would go to the ER. I am concerned. Please keep us updated.

I have had no after affects. I took it easy on the intake for the rest of the day and no problem. I'm pretty sure it was the ketchup.< /p>

I will NEVER eat that fast again. What a lesson!

Ann, Glad to hear that you are ok. I have made myself sick twice while learning how to eat. I can say that I learned my lesson too.

I've found ketchup to be a little too acidic for my tummy right now. We are a true "condiment" family, and I love, love, love ketchup. The weirdest thing is that I can eat salsa and chips like a champ without any problem. But, give me a little ketchup, and my burping up ickiness for a couple of hours. I don't get it at all.

I'm glad you didn't have any after effects, and are feeling better.

Maybe it's the sugar or HFCS in ketchup? Good salsa doesn't have much, if any, added sugar (in my Texan opinion!)

I'm not sure, but heavy marinara or Pasta sauce gives me the same results. It's the weirdest thing because I can eat jalepenos, heavy garlic, but give me ketchup, Pasta Sauce, or orange juice, and I'm hurting quite a bit.

I'm the same way Tiffy - and I have issues with Mayonnaise too -- haven't figured that one out yet, but it really hurts my stomach. I gave up on spaghetti sauce, which bums me out because I really liked it on the ricotta bake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
