Will my headache ever go away?!

Recommended Posts

I had my band removed on Tuesday, YIPPEE! But now I have a headache that just won't quit. Tylenol doesn't help. I've tried Protein, sugar and caffeine and those don't help either. Even the pain meds from my surgery don't help. I'm sure it is because of my post-op liquid diet but does anyone have a suggestion?:cursing:

I had a headache after my surgery that lasted a few days. It was from the spinal they gave me in the hospital. It just had to wear off. I felt a little better everyday.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have read about the headache that KyHen is describing and agree it could be what you are experiencing. I occasionally will get massive headaches usually focused right above and behind my eye, extending over the top of my head and down the back of my neck. Usually I can attribute it to a lack of sleep and not eating. Nothing will put a dent in it, aspirin, tylenol, excedrine. Even eating doesn't make it go away. I stumbled across a guy's web page that has Migraines a lot and he has found that drinking a Red Bull energy drink seems to help. I tried it and I have to agree that it took my headache from an 8 or 9 down to a 2 or 3. It was still there, but at least I could function and get back to do things. If I had the time to do it, I would lay down and take a short nap and it would lessen to a 1 or go away. I keep a couple of sugar free Redbulls in the fridge just in case now. You might want to try it, they now have the small super concentrated energy shots that are not carbonated. Should be easier to drink and have the same effect. I think it has to do something with the guarine and tarine in the drink it increases blood flow.

Are you able to stay hydrated? Sometimes headaches are a symptom of slight dehydration. If you haven't tried it yet, I would get some gatorade or pedialyte to sip on for the added electrolytes.

I hope you feel better soon.

It may also be due to the large amount of caffeine in Red Bull. If the headache is a true Migraine, once the caffeine wears off after drinking Red Bull, the headache could come right back. Caffeine is a migraine trigger for some people.

You are right, some people are going to be caffiene sensitive. I get more than my fair share of caffiene from other sources. When I get the type of headache I was referring to in the original post caffiene isn't causing it and won't help it. I have tried that route for years to figure out if caffiene was a culprit or a solution. It wasn't until I stumbled upon a guys blog about the Red Bulls. It works for me when I do get the kind of headache that convinces me that I have a brain tumor. Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks for all of the help. I had thought about the dehydration thing and am trying to make sure I'm drinking enough. It finally did subside today.

This might be dumb, but go to the eye doctor and ask him to check you for pseudotumor cerebri. . . it's a condition where the fluids from the cerebral fluids collect behind the eyes and cause incredible headaches. . . if that is what it may be, you'll be asked to do visual fields to see if there is damage, if so then you'll go to a neurologist who will evaluate you and set you to a neurosurgeon for a possible shunt placement. . . . I went through this and until I had my surgery and shunt placement i had very bad headaches. . . so try the eye doctor and get him to check. . . . hope this helps

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
