I am 17 days out of surgery and I noticed I can eat anything. I am supposed to be on clear liquid diet for one month but last night I was so hungry and I took a very little piece of bread with white cheese on top. it went down really great. only I burp afterwards. also today I ate Jello and it did not cause any problem except the burping all the time. I am not hungry but I am not full at the same time. when did u start sensing this full stomach feeling? I just stopped cuz I am afraid to complicate my surgery and rupture the staple line.

when do u guys start eating solid food?

I lost so far 22 pounds in these 17 days. I am happy about it. but shirts are getting loose. my neck started to reshape. my friends always told me I have a great neck when I was thin ofcourse. my face looks much better. my chin fat disappeared. but I am wide at the lower part of my body. this DID NOT CHANGE. I hate being this wide. I expected to be able to wear a smaller jeans size but no way. my mother says that she is noticing my jeans getting loose. is it one of the resistant fatty areas in our body? thanks all for listening to me.

I would stick with your post-op diet. I know it's tough, but it's there to protect your healing tummy. A lot of people say that carbs make them more hungry (I personally don't experience this trend), so I would stay away from bread this early out.

As for the lower portion of the body, it will go away as well. There is a thread on here about the "fat that goes first". A lot of people report that they lose their upper torso and thigh fat first. It's been my experience as well. I have a little spare tire around my tummy still and have lost 100lbs. It's a lot smaller than it used to be, but it's still there. Don't get discouraged about not dropping sizes quickly. I didn't drop whole pant sizes immediately, but once the weight really starting to drop, I was dropping a pant size every couple of weeks. Bra sizes is a big indicator of inches loss, and shirts definitely got smaller more quickly.

I didn't start eating solids for almost 3 months. I progressed my diet pretty slowly, and some days I have to revert back to the mushy/puree stage even at 5 months post-op.

Burping could be a sign of nausea. Are you taking an anti acid medication like Nexium or Rantidine or something? Jello is considered a clear liquid by my doctor as are sugar free popsicles and crystal light and broth. I would suggest that you contact your doctor about what you are eating and how you are feeling. I can start regular food (in small amounts) 31 days after surgery depending on how my stomach is tolerating it. Increase burping would be a sign that my stomach is not ready for that food yet or that I am eating too fast and taking too big of bites.

This is still so very new for you- and a learning process. But you want to learn to eat "healthy" and the right foods.

Stay away from the bread ( carbs ) at this stage-

Start taking your mesurements- you'll be wonderfully surprised at what your body is doing! You may start losing inches even when the scale doesn't reflect much of a loss.

g'luck! Keep us posted!

You are doing great with your weight loss. I too noticed my face, chest, and feet were the first areas to lose inches. I definitely have the spare tire still that Tiffy was talking about, but good thing it is getting smaller. I feel for me that exercise has been the key for helping to reshape my lower body and of course you are still too early out to begin that. Even now when my measurements and weight stay pretty much the same, I still am finding clothes fit me better or I can get into a new size. I think this is to do with the reshaping of my lower half from exercising.

About the food, can you talk with your surgeon/nutritionist? I know mine actually kept me longer on certain stages than told to me pre-op because of an extensive hernia repair he wanted to make sure healed as well. Maybe yours might move you a little quicker through stages based on your recovery (full liquids aren't quite as bad as clear)? I know it's hard, but I'd try to follow what they say as best as possible. Good luck!

you are right, actually today after having this little piece of bread with cheese, I vomitted part of it and lots of nausea. so I was back to my Soup and Clear Liquids.

I just need some patience. I am only 17 days out and I have been obese for my entire life. it do take time to fix this problem:) I don't exercise at the time being. my doctor said I can join a gym after 6 weeks. I can walk like he said from day 1. today I will go for my 30 minutes walking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
