Feeling anxious about surgery - Is it normal?

Recommended Posts

I am so glad that I read everyone's comments. I just found out that I am approved for the sleeve and my surgery is scheduled for Dec.2. I am going on a two week pre-op diet Nov 18. Protein Shakes, bars and 32-64 oz. Water daily. I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster ride. I can't hardly go to sleep, I have to just completely give out before I can do so. I am so happy, excited, nervous ect. I know this will all pass and then I will be going through other emotions after surgery. I have been doing alot of hoping and praying that everything will work out for the good. I am putting my faith in my surgeon and God. But yes I am normal and I still feel some fear of the unknown. So I am really glad that people really give alot of details about their experience, so that at least I will know what some of the things are that I might experience myself before, during and after surgery. Again Thank you!! I will post more on "Tell your Story" "Waiting! Getting closer to having VSG surgery From Mountain_lover

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
