Wisconsin VSGrs?

Recommended Posts

Hi Aimee,

I'm in Wisc. Rapids. Are we the only ones? I have not been 'sleeved' yet. I just made the decision this past week. I started out thinking I would get banded, but after MUCH research I've changed my mind. I've been obsessed about reading, and I've talked to two different doctor's offices in Texas. (I'm from TX and it is MUCH less expensive there) I know my ins. is not going to pay, so I'm looking else where. Medical care is so costly here....anyway, have you had it done? If so, tell me everything!!!!

Have a great weekend!

That is funny. Where are you from? I'm six weeks out today. I had two stalls in weight loss - maybe at week two (was stuck at 20lbs for a week) and just recently I GAINED three pounds. I've been seeing my PCP regularly and for me, I think it has to do with unmanaged sugar levels. I was hoping to not have to continue taking my meds, but if it means it's going to stall my weight loss...it's not an option. So, I'm back on it.

I think the biggest surprise for me was that the restriction is real. haha. I don't know what I was thinking, maybe because I've really struggled these last seven years to get the weight off and nothing was working, but maybe I thought it wasn't going to work for me or something. But, the restriction is as real as it gets. In the beginning, it was a little tough the first week. My stomach was swollen from the ssurgery and was about the size of a pencil because of it. Hardly could swollow even Water, the tiniest tiniest bit. I literally had to suck it in through my teeth and let it drop down bit by bit. You'll feel it.

At six weeks out, I'm still not eating 'regularly'. I have very little food that will go down and stay down right now. I'm sort of still on mushies - yogurt, cottage cheese, Soups, Protein drinks - lots of sugar free popsicles. Stock up those popsicles. I heard from enough people and it see those are soothing for everyone, not just me. I can eat a bunch of them at one sitting and it helps with my thirst. They're 10 calories a pop so it's hardly a diet breaker.

Have fun at the Brewers game and let me know how your surgery goes. You said you're having it in Dallas. I had mine in Mexicali, Mexico.

Hey Guys,

Got the sleeve July 16, 2009. Hubby just got his May 14th, and starts mushies today so he is really excited. My sister got hers at the end of January. My girlfriend went with us in May and got one also. We all went to Mexico. Since I am the "old timer" if you have any questions, ask!

West Allis here. I'm just now starting to think about seeing Dr. Aceves in Mexicali for the WLS/sleeve. Right now I"m getting used to the idea of getting better medical care in Mx than the US, but hey, he's done 700 sleeves. Find a U.S. doc with that much experience and I'll think about him/her too. Probably going to get it done June/July, I'm Medicare so it's all self pay. I certainly would like to hear from everyone. Thanks!

I'm in Green Bay and have surgery scheduled for Sept 16, 2010 with Dr. Aceves. I have insurance but it doesn't cover bariatric surgery. I'm scared now. I'm travelling alone, and wish it wasn't so. I'll be glad to be home and with my family and recovering.

Hey there!

First of all....GOOD FOR YOU!!! You are going to do great! You have picked the very BEST surgeon for the sleeve, at a really nice hospital!

The procedure itself is quite easy and the success you will have is astounding! I have had the sleeve, (july 2009) as well as my sister (Jan 2010) my hubby (May 2010) and friend (May 2010) Now my hairdresser is also having it in November.

If you have any questions I can help you with, please let me know!

Jean

Thanks Jean. I'll let you know how it goes. I have another friend here in GB who just had a sleeve done (here in GB) about 2 weeks ago. She seems pretty happy with her procedure so far.

Hey there!! Long time since the Brewer's game....surgery went great, I'm headed back to TX for my three month check up and to see family in a couple. I had an easy time....best decision I ever made!!! How are you doing??!!

Anyone from northern Wisconsin out there? Talking Minocqua here... Haven't been sleeved yet, but am in the process and am going through Dr Selwyn in Stevens Point. I know this is a long shot since no Cheeseheads have posted for almost two years, but worth a try!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
