booked my surgery in Syria

Recommended Posts

I am excited and a bit nervous , but I did it and booked my flight to middle east to have my surgery there.

I booked a flight to Cairo to spend some days then to Lebanon then crossing the border by land to syria. It's all fun until here, then the surgery Dec 5th ,2009. will relax for 10 days in Lebanon then come back to Canada.

I could have booked the flight str8 to syria but I wanted to make a vacation our of it as well.

Some friends said it's very good there and the service is great.

will keep you all updated and take pics for the facility and everthing as this might be helpful for some others who might consider middle east as well.

I am very happy for you man..best of luck. dunno if u've visited leb before but one thing for surem, u chose to rest at the right place..it will be beyond marvelous at this time of year! lucky u:001_rolleyes:

but question: how long after surgery r u planning to travel by car? i really reaaaally think u should stay in syria for at least 5 days. the incisions might be too much to tolerate during the 4-6 hours drive. perhaps u should check with the surgeon.

on another note, this will pass like a breeze so dont worry too much...u might get a moment or two of " damn what am i doing to myself "...if u do, just confirm to urself that it is absolutely the right way back on track..best of luck again!

And be sure to get up and walk around a lot on the flights home...so you don't get a blood clot. Drink lots of sips of Water to stay hydrated!

I agree with burnout - how long after your surgery are you travelling? I had surgery on a Sat and rode home 6 hours on Tuesday - I was fine to do that - just leaned the car seat back a bit with a pillow under my head. It's not something I would have tried the day after surgery, that's for sure. Give yourself a few days before jumping in a car for 5-6 hours - and stop a few times to get out and stretch your legs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
