Question about sleeping

Recommended Posts

Because of being fat and having large breasts, almost since I can remember, I've always slept on my tummy. Kind of on my tummy with one leg kicked out and my arm under my pillow so i'm not flat on my face. I cannot sleep on my back at all or I feel like I can't breath and I wake myself up snoring. Sometimes I can sleep on my side but I really sleep so much better on my tummy. Will I not be able to sleep like that again after surgery? I'm worried that I will not be able to sleep. I'm hoping once I lose the weight, I will be able to sleep however I want. Anyone have this same issue?

Once your surgery wounds are healed you will be able to resume sleeping in the positions which bring you most comfort, even while they are healing.

I am a side sleeper, and had to sleep in my recliner for a couple of weeks because it was just too uncomfortable to even attempt sleeping in my bed.

Getting up and down out of posed a problem for me as well. The recliner helped with not having to use my abdominal muscles to get up and moving.

HI,

I am a "stomach sleeper as well" by nature, I tried sleeping on my back but it was too uncomfortable= I slept on my side the first week and I found that after about a week or so (I would put a pillow under my tummy) and fall asleep like that and it wasnt so bad! I just cannot sleep any other way. This all depends on your pain level too though!

Hope this helps!

I'm a side sleeper as well but just HAD to sleep on my back for a week or so. I found that sleeping on the couch was much, much more comfortable for side sleeping (maybe because our couch is very squishy and our bed is very firm). The nice thing here is that you will have pain meds which will make it pretty much impossible NOT to sleep so that will help.

I'm 1 week out and am able to sleep on either side, but sleeping on my right side is a little more comfortable as the biggest incision is on my left side--where the port was and still hurts some to sleep on it. Use lots of pillows and you'll be fine on your side.

I'm 5-6 weeks post op. I am totally with each of you!! I have to sleep on my side; I hate..HATE sleeping on my back. However, after surgery one of the biggest challenges was finding a way to sleep that didn?t want me to wish a merciful death!

I slept in a chair (slash hospital bed) for about 2 full weeks. Then i was in my bed but really in a modified sleeping on back/sitting position. I think it was about 3 weeks out that i was finally able to sleep comfortably.

The sleeping issue just sucks..but it goes away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
