San Antonio, Tx surgeons

Recommended Posts

I need some help from anyone with information on San Antonio surgeons.

John is putting in for a job at Lackland AFB, and we could be there as early as next spring. I know it's a bit early, but my main concerns with moving will be having to find a new surgeon.

I have already checked out OH, and their surgeon profiles, but I want to see if there is anyone out here that I can get some information from directly.

My surgeon saved my life, and has a very special place in my heart. We have a unique bond, and I am quite heartbroken with having to even consider someone else. I knew it would be inevitable at some point, I just didn't think it would be happening within the first 12 months of my surgery.

There are several benefits for us moving. This is really the only "con" we can come up with, it's a big one. I do plan on talking to my secondary surgeon (my surgeon is currently deployed until April '09) in December when I have my 6 month follow up to see if he can research someone for me through the military hospital at Lackland.

Tiff-

I have a good friend that just moved from there, and San Antonio has some of the best surgeons in the country. I'll ask her to drop by the forum and PM you. She was going to get her surgery (sleeve) there, but they ended up moving to El Paso, before she could.

If you guys swing through El Paso on your way to San Antonio and need a place to stay, give me a holler!!

San Antonio is supposed to be amazing.

Thank you so very much. We'll be driving from Florida so we won't make all the way to El Paso.

I've heard mixed reviews on the surgeons at Lackland's Wilford Hall. Plus, with military surgeons, they always end up getting orders to somewhere else, or they deploy. My surgeon is seriously the 3rd most important man in my life next to my husband and son so leaving him is going to be extraordinarily difficult.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

Tiff,

Being military, do you have to go to a military surgeon?

Tiff,

Being military, do you have to go to a military surgeon?

It varies by base. Here in Florida, I have a civilian PCM, had a civilian for my band, but then requested to go through the MTF(military hospital for the revision).

I will have to wait and see what "rules" are set up down there. I hope we can have a civilian PCM, and I can have some leniency with choosing a surgeon.

With my complications, I'm not willing to settle for just any "joe schmoe" surgeon. Plus, we'll be trying to conceive next year, so I have to have a high risk ob/gyn as well as a surgeon who can monitor my pregnancy.

Our insurance is a good ole' HMO. I can make a change to the standard Tricare which is a PPO of sorts that doesn't require referrals, and I can see whoever I want with little out of pocket expense. The HMO version of Tricare called, Tricare Prime, is fabulous, and I have learned how to work the system to get referrals and approvals very quickly.

I hoping to find a very skilled surgeon that can accomodate all my needs.

That's great. Nothing like knowing how to work the system. San Antonio is so beautiful...I know you will enjoy living there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
