3 weeks and 3 days post op STALL?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys!

I've been feeling a little down. I lost 20lbs. after my first 15 days, but I have almost 10 days that I have not lost 1 pound! :crying:

What's going on? I guess it is since I started on mushies... But why? I'm not eating much. Probably all day it is around 1 cup of food. Not that many calories. I'm only drinking Water.

One day I cheated and ate a very small piece of cake, but besides that nothing else... Help! :confused1:

I would start recording what you are eating. Just to make sure you are not over 800 calories. It is easy to graze and take in more than you think.

You need to use all your room for Protein for awhile so avoid cakes and Cookies. Also high sugar food just turns to liquid and slips right through your stomach. It does not keep you full.

Can you kick up the exercize a bit? Since I have been going to the gym riding the bike, wow it is sure coming off fast. are you still losing inches? you need a nsv. Non scale victory. Think about it, have you had anything happen that was kinda cool? Pants big? Have to use a pin in your blouse to keep it on your sholders? Watched someone eat and not had any hunger for that item?

Also calculate your calories and be sure you are getting in 600-800. If you are below that, your metabolism might have slowed too much. Bump up to 600-800 and see what happens.

Hi there. I'm an old veteran -- 10 months out. But from what I remember, the three week stall is typical and I was down about it until I saw my surgeon for a follow up visit. He said I was right where I needed to be. He stated when the body loses so much at first, and a lot of fluids, the body is retaining for a bit and trying to even itself out so to speak. Once it figures things out, you'll start losing again. Although not a good idea to eat cake right now. Be strick about sticking to the program in the first few months, ok?

Yes, hang in there, most of us have been there. I remember making a post about it too not long ago. I think part of my problem (even now) is that Im not getting in enough calories and im almost 2 mos out, so it does take some getting use too! After about a week of being stalled, I broke it! I stepped up my exercise, bumped up Water and Protein and I lost 7 lbs directly after! Hang in there!

Hey Guys! Thanks for all your posts. I got on the scale this morning and I was down 5lbs! Just hope it keeps up.

I am kind of worried about not losing like everyone else does, because I also have a slow thyroid and it has always hindered my weight loss.

The cake I ate went down fine. I didn't have a problem at all, but I don't plan on doing that again.

I have not been exercising. That's probably another problem. I need to get back in that tomorrow. Also I have been struggling with my Water intake. It is so hard for me to drink one 20oz bottle of Water and I need to drink 3 a day! I don't know what I will do! Have to find a way.

Also I believe my calorie intake has been low. Maybe 300-400 calories. I don't know quite how to raise it... Also I'm still on mushies and it is hard to get much Protein in during this stage. Any suggestions?

keep drinking the Protein Drinks. I have found myoplex by EAS, chocolate cream is good for me. I just pour out 3oz. at a time 4 times a day. I am working on getting to 5 times a day or one bottle a day. I still only get down about 4 or 5 oz at a "meal" 30 min to do that. I am 3 1/2 weeks post. So I "snack" on Protein Drink. Water is hard for me to get in as much as I should. I am a work in progress. I will not give up.

Hello everyone, I read these blogs about it taking a half hour to get one little meal down, seems like you must be doing this all day. This must take too much of your time! I thought I was a slow eater.. Know it has to be done though....

You know at first it seems like all you do is mess around with drinking, making mushie foods, trying to eat, drinking more, making mushy foods, trying to eat etc.

For the first several weeks after surgery your life will probably revolve around your stomach and what it wants/needs. This gets better. I am 10 weeks out and we get along fine for the most part. We are also kind of in a routine. Also the first several weeks your stomach is still swollen and healing making it hold even less!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
