Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

So...I'm okay, how are you?

Recommended Posts

I saw my DS surgeon today. Initial conversation:

Dr: "How are you doing?"

Me: I'm so cute! (laugh) You have created a monster!

Dr: That's HIS problem! (gesturing toward my husband)

Me: And I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder, but backwards. Most patients still think of themselves as fat. I feel so good that when we pass by a mirror, I wonder who the fat chick is who's holding hands with my husband!!

I need to add one Vitamin tablet (Dry ADEK's.) I asked if I needed additional Protein. I was told that almost EVERYONE--wls or not--needs more Protein. (And I'm trying a new product as soon as its delivered.) My ferritin stores are fairly low, but as I have been post-menopausal for almost thirty years, he doesn't see that as a problem, so he doesn't recommend Iron at this time. I'm to return in six months.

On his high-rent-district scales, I weigh 75 pounds less than I did a week pre-op. But I had just been unfilled, so we KNOW what kind of a Last Supper week that was.

That was MY day...how are y'all doin'?

I have...believe it or not...a "stalker." A former coworker. And he doesn't respond appropriately when I say, "No...I don't want to see you and I don't care that you want to see me." He called and called and bugged and bugged for DECADES, and--until I hear he is dead, I'm not posting my photo where he can find it. (We're both old...it's okay to talk about dead.)

Maybe I'll post a headless one some day!!!

Do you get PB/stuck kinda feelings with your belly now?

No!! The one bad thing that I have experienced...besides the hellacious recovery period with my esophagus going ballistic...is poop. If I OD on carbs today, I'll poop four times tomorrow morning. It's my choice, and sometimes I say "what the hell?" but I usually make fairly reasonable decisions...which I did NOT do with the band.

AND, the poop sure stinks. There IS a resolution for that...a tablet called Devrom that ostomy patients use so their little bags don't stink. But most of the time, I'm here alone and I have impaired sense of smell and I just use my Ozium or Oust and there is no problem. (Well, except for the time my sister popped in unannounced, wandered off to MY bathroom instead of my husband's and came out asking where the body was hidden.)

I'm back to my pre-band, regular stomach sensations, except that it takes less food for me to get to a feeling of really being full or satisfied. I just never had that while banded.

Oh...and the NEXT visit to the Indian Retaurant we went to last night should probably NOT include even the "medium spicy" version. I think I ought to stick with "mild."

That's a stack of weight. So very well done. And I really do mean that.

Thanks. I'd love to take credit for being wise enough to make this work or something, but that ain't it. I just eat tons of Protein and poop too much when I screw up and the surgery does the rest. WHAT WILL HAPPEN THREE YEARS FROM NOW may be different...but all I can do it give it a good try and trust that I have finally found an answer for me.

"until I hear he's dead" made me snort my morning coffee! I certainly don't blame you...but I guess headless shots would do just fine? LOL

Congrats though. I'm happy for you!!!!

Junior Brown sings a CLASSIC song and video: "You're wanted by the Po-lice and my wife thinks you're dead".....

brings a smile to me every time I hear it....

congratulations on finding an answer, and thanks for your continued inspiration...

Hey, Jack...I'd call the po-lice about this situation, but wanna take a WILD GUESS what this guy did for a living? And, just for shits and giggles, he's kind a "living legend" among his peer group. (And I even have kind-of-family connections into the top levels of the agency involved, but I just don't want to go there...because it's something that should be OVER by now.) For my own protection, I visit a website that HE frequents to see when he plans to attend the reunion luncheons they have in my area. (He has moved away and between THAT and a new wife, it DID cut down on the calls...to, actually, nothing in quite a while now. ) But I visit the website all the time, based on the premise that if you stalk your stalker, you have fewer negative surprises. And I now have call intercept on the phone. And, well, there's the 12-gauge...bird shot, buck shot, bird shot, buck shot...you gotta know your own skill level for stuff like this. ("If you ever find yourself in a fair fight...you didn't prepare.")

Wow Sue, so glad to hear that all's well! Also glad to hear your esophagus is working again.

I can't imagine having a stalker. CREEPY!! But.... if you ever wanted to do headless shots or something, I'd be happy to fuzzy the face or somethin' on them for you! (if you know how to use graphics programs, then nevermind that last comment, lol)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
