This is a little silly but my sister told me about all of her pre-op testing when she had the RNY and she mentioned one test that I sincerely hope I do not have to have with the banding. With the Pre-op testing for the band... do they generally do an arterial blood gas test? With this test they put a small needle straight down into the wrist to get an arterial blood sample. THis would not be on my list for fun things to do! :dead

PAHLEEEESSSE say it isn't so....

Hi Darcy,

I am sorry to say that I know I had to have one and most people I have spoken with had to also!

I did not have any problem with it at all, I guess it depends on the person who is doing it to you!

I had heard horrors stories and by the time I finished telling the man (who took mine) all the horror stories, he was done!

So good luck!

Don't fret, it is usually a quick procedure!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

AH Baileym that is just exactly the answer I was not hoping for...lol. I've just seen that particular type of blood draw done too many times over my nursing career and I was really hoping it would be something I would NEVER have to endure... DANG. I guess I will just have to hope for an experience like yours ... I wonder if Dr. Chua would mind if I wnet to Michigan for my Arterial Blood Gas testing? :)

Thanks for your honesty... I do like knowing what to expect. I swear... I am such a big baby!

Ummm, I had to have the ABG too! But then, BaileyM and I have the same doctor!

I was literally sick to my stomach with the anticipation ... all for naught! It was nothing! I had heard the horror stories, I had watched my Mom cry and cry and her arm turn black and blue, but it was just a poke, nothing more! I had to remind myself that my Mom was 84 and had really weak skin and veins and arteries! You may not even need it, but if you do, you'll be just fine!

I didn't have to have that test. I had to have an EKG, psych test, Upper GI, Venous Doppler and lab work. Hope you don't have to endure that test but from other replies it doesn't sound as bad as you've been told.

Hi Debra and Shelia...

As with most tests I think it depends on the skill of the person that is doing it... BUT... since Jennye had her surgery with the same Dr. that I am having it with... it looks like I am not going to have to worry about it... YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Take Care:D
