A Christmas present to myself!

Recommended Posts

I just gave myself the best Christmas present ever. I've scheduled surgery with Dr. Alvarez for December 8th! I am so excited and proud of myself that I could burst. I have made a concious decision to make this journey alone (which has my husband very supportive but a bit apprehensive). But for me, having this surgery is so much more than just a weight loss experience. It is taking back control of my life, the decisions I make in my life and knowing that I have found the inner power to do whatever I need to and want to. I dont know if many other people feel the same way but for me this is not only a physical journey but a spiritual one as well.

I am encouraged by all of the people that have gone by themselves. This site gives me tremendous insight and hope that my day is just around the corner!

Congratulations on making your decision and scheduling your date. It really is a life changing experience, both physically and mentally. Everyone faces it in their own way. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted as your journey progresses.

Congratulations! I think this is one of the best gifts you could have given yourself. This is a wonderful place to learn while you wait and once you return. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
