Jeans and my port

Recommended Posts

I will be 10 weeks post op on thursday. I am still having tenderness at my port area and it is annoying. I mentioned it to my doc when I went for my first fill and he said that it would be sore because he was messing with it. The thing is, when I wear jeans the waist band pushes on my port or just below my port making it sore. I can't wear hip hugger jeans because I have way to much hips at this time, lol. The solution is to not wear jeans, but I like to wear jeans and by the way they fit me I can tell that I am losing weight and it is great. I just can't take my port bothering me. It really is only an annoyance, not bad pain, but it is still sore. Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone elses port bothered them this long after surgery?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, for at least the first year, I became pretty sore when wearing jeans or anything with a fairly tight waistband. Especially if I sat bent for very long. Unfortunately, my port was located right at my waistband, but it has migrated over some over the period of 3 years.

Your port area will be a nuisance forever, probably. I am 6 months out and it isn't that it hurts but it is in the area where our waist band is to our pants. It is the scar tissue that is rubbing against our port I think.

My doctor said that I have to replace mine because he said it is too big and it is sticking out. I lost 98 lbs. in which he never expected and thinks that the smaller one will suite me better. I still have another 8lbs. to go and once I am toned up or get rid of my excess skin it will stick out even more. There are two sizes of ports. One is a quarter size and the other is a dime size. In a couple of months I am going to change it out.

If it has a fly longer than a few inches I wont wear it, so I havent had this problem. I'd be betting that the discomfort dies down over time though.

I definitely still have a problem with jeans, even ones that are loose. I love to wear them, too, though. I actually find that I have a harder time eating when wearing jeans.

There are some 'lower' jeans for bigger folks now. They aren't hip huggers, but they are just a couple of inches lower than regular ones. I think they are called "low cut", but they still aren't that low. Even now at almost 2 years out, when my port isn't bothering me, I still like them better cuz you don't get cut off at the waiste when you sit down. My port is on my waistline just to the left. My doctor said "I did that on purpose, because it's not going to be your waistline anymore". Yeesh.

I wore elastic waistbands for a good few months before even trying jeans.

Stretch jeans that aren't too tight might fare better too.

Thank you for asking that, I'm 10 weeks out too and my port has really started to have pain as well. I know that Old Navy makes an ultra-low rise jean that goes up to a size 20. I'll have to go jean shopping this weekend.

Thanks!!

:) Kristin

Try wearing high control panties, or very high cut black panties with your hip huggers. I love hiphuggers but have a gut, and this way, its discrete and your back side wont be smilin' at anyone lol

I can't wear Old Navy pants, they don't fit me or my daughter right, lol. It stinks to because I have a credit card for there.

YMMV, however, I bought some of the lower rise - thinking it wouldn't push on the port. BUT, what I got was that the band actually pushed UPWARD under the port ..... edited, sorry folks...

leatha, I can see how that would happen. I guess it just depends on the person and the fit (which isn't really helpful, lol)...

This is exactly what happens to me. This is why I was wondering if this bothered others the way it bothers me.

Have you tried the Curvy jeans at Old Navy??, They are not low waisted they are actually at a perfect medium. You should try some of those next time you are in the store.. these are the only jeans that actually fit me just right all the other ones they carry do not fit right.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
