Hi Friends,

Im new to the site, and appreciate all of the info. I was sleeved on October 20, 2009 in The Woodlands, TX. I wasnt terribly obese, (275 highest, 265 day of surgery, BSA 37) but was very symptomatic with co-morbidities, including HTN, HLD, and bad sleep apnea, and found no relief with a C-PAP. Luckily, my surgeon recommended the VSG, and got it approved through my insurance. I just assumed Id have the Gastric Bypass, but am happy there was no intestinal work involved.

So far so good, almost 2 weeks post op and Im down 10 lbs. Im not sure if this is a good thing or not. Still on the liquids, and am anxious to start real food. Im very tired of drinking all fruity liquids, and Soup. Im just curious what will happen the next 4 weeks or so.

Hello rycurtis and welcome to the VST forum. You are right the liquid stage is tough. I am 30 days out and starting to eat reg. foods in small amounts. I am learning as I go about the amounts I can eat. I know that a chicken wing, one bite of potatoes, and one bite of slaw is too much for me right now.

I'm learning as I go what my new tummy likes and don't like. Everyone is different. I can eat eggs with no problems, but a lot of people on here have trouble with them.

Everyday gets better. Just hang in there and you will be fine. My energy levels are up, no more BP meds. and I'm sleeping so much better now.

Just ask any questions you want to know and someone will jump in to help. This is a very friendly and helpful board. Good luck in your new journey.

welcome! just go slow with the eating, give your stomach time to adjust to the new program. It will tell you what it wants and how much. I am not off Soups yet. I can and do eat soft foods but, I am in love with soups. Good thing I had my sleeve done in the fall. I wonder what people eat in the summer? I am all over the hot herbal teas and hot soups. Good luck. Have patience.

Hi RYCurtis and welcome to VST. Congratulations, too, on your surgery -- I know what you mean about the liquid stage - it is really tough to follow - each stage gets easier though and before you know it, you'll be eating solids -- just start out slow - and with small portions - you'll be amazed how little it will take to fill you up and make you satisfied.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
