texasbelle 0 Posted April 8, 2004 Hi All, I am back newly banded 4-2-04. I am wondering why I do not have more energy. On my 4th day post op I felt great. I must admit I did a lot of things around the house and I probably overdid just a bit. Then I was so tired yesterday (slept alot) and today is better but not the same as Tuesday. I read all the archives and there seemed to be a lot of people who went back to work 3 days after surgery. I did have some problems in surgery with adhesions so it took longer and I was allergic to anesthesia so I awoke sick as a dog. I am feeling like a wimp! I usually bounce back quickly from everything. I know I am older that a lot of people and that could contribute. My job is not a sedentary one so I took this week off to recuperate. I am just hopeing I start getting back to normal soon. I really thought it would be a piece of cake and hardly any down time. I was wrong. Do you have any words of wisdom for me. O....btw my doctor told me it would be better for the band if I did not drink alcohol. He said it could contribute to erosion of the band. I for one do not want to go through that again, not to mention the cost. I am opting for no alcohol now and in the future.
Debra 0 Posted April 8, 2004 Welcome back, Texasbelle, and congrats on your band! Don't rush it, girl! You just had a life changing surgery! And don't be down on yourself, you need to cut yourself some slack!!sleep if you are tired, lay down and rest, read a good book, watch a movie, pamper yourself! You'll be up and around before you know it but right now you need to give yourself permission to relax and HEAL! So, can you remember these words and throw them back at me next June when I have my surgery!! (Only if they helped, thou!!) Good luck and best wishes! not2big42long 0 Posted April 9, 2004 Hi Texasbelle, I felt great right after also. And then began to get a little weak(I also thought it was strange) but I think it is just your body adjusting to the reduced amount of food you are eating. I am now 2 weeks out and am just now starting to feel like my energy is coming back. I went back to work after a week (my job is a on your feet and moving type job also), and I could feel a difference in my stamina about half way through the day. I find that I need a little more rest right now. So follow Debra's advice and just take this time to heal. Slow down a little and rest when ever you can. Once your past this part you will have plenty of time to work harder!! Congrats on your Band!:banana
texasbelle 0 Posted April 9, 2004 Thank ya'll for giving me good advice. I am going to try and do just that . Kathy, I appreciate your input because you are a step ahead of me and I am interested in your personal insights. It sounds like we have the same kind of work activity going on. It is good to have some info regarding the immediate future and I have that to look forward to. Thank you for the encourgement from you both. I meant a lot to me. Alexandra 55 Posted April 9, 2004 Hi Texasbelle! Congratulations and welcome to the other side. It really is hard for people who are used to being healthy to adjust when it's time to rest and heal, but our bodies let us know when too much is just too much. Listen to your body and REST! Your energy will return, especially after you've gotten back on solid foods. In the meantime push the Protein and get plenty of sleep. Nice to meet you!
