I mentioned that when I started this process I told them I had just joined WW and I was told that might not be a good idea and to run it by the experts on my day long event.

Well I asked and the answer was that WW is a fine plan. They don't care that I am doing WW so much as it should be second chair to their plan which is more about learning how to be an sleeved person. They don't like the idea of weighing in each week. They are more interested in working the transition that will need to occur over the next 3 months for me to be a happy camper. For instance, if I want to go have a big meal at my favorite restaurant, or have a "last" big family event for Thanksgiving, they are good with that as long as I am doing the rest of the drill...giving up carbonated drinks, chew, chew, chew, concentrating on Protein, giving up whte carbs as much as possible.....

So if I WANT to do WW, have at it. But they said that I will soon enough be on the pre-surgery diet and that's when I need to have walked away from all the other things...things that right now are okay with where I am in the process.

I'm going for a middle ground. I'm going to stay with the WW plan as a guide for healthy eating but I'm not sweating the numbers. If I want to go out and have pizza with friends a last time before I'm sleeved that's fine as long as I am also going down their list of pre-surgery habits, working them and checking them off as well.

You will never be able to eat like before. You can graze, eventually eat solids, but you will never be able to pig out on pizza. I over ate all my favorite food before surgery, because I couldn't control myself. That is why I was morbidly obese. If I could have follow WW, or any diet plan, then I wouldn't have needed WLS. WLS makes it impossible to pig out like before. Just try to eat a whole pizza, or any combo at a fast food place..not possible. Now, if I consume 1000 calories, I feel like I really messed up big time, I never thought that I would be like that, a person who barely eats 1000 calories per day..hahah, LOVE IT!!

I eat pizza every week. I always take my son and DIL out to pizza once a week. I can eat one piece of pizza and I really enjoy it. It fills me up so much that it doesn't bother me to watch them eat all the rest of a giant pizza.

This is a difficult one, I struggle with it too although I'm banded, not sleeved. I lost really well and have a BMI of 21, but I'm a really tall, thin build and to be honest, i still have fat that I'd like to lose. To do that at this stage, I'd definitely need a "plan", just eating well doesnt cut it for weight loss any longer.

But with things like WW and the one I like - Lite n Easy (an Australian home delivered) I just cant eat all of the food! It makes me realise how WLS can actually lead you to eat less healthy than you did - becuase you just cant fit in the required amounts of fruit, vegies and wholegrains that you could. I balk at paying $125 a week for my 3 meals and having to throw out half my dinner!

To be honest, for weight loss initially, you dont need to follow a plan as such, just the "rules".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
