Well I haven't had wls surgery yet but I have had 2 c-sections. It's a little tricky but not to painful. Of course I will admit, I was much small then so it was easier to reach. You might want to get a squirt bottle and fill it with warm Water, if you have problems or pain. I know it sounds weird but thats what my dr told me after I had my babies and it helped.

Hi,

Dispell your fear! I was NEVER in that amount of pain after VSG as to where I could not perform any of my "daily functions or routines." I was somewhat sore but not merely as much as you'd think. I was sent home with liquid hydrocodone, just in case, I was in a lot of pain, I took it once or twice just for should for my shoulder (gas) pain but that was it, after that I just took liquid tylenol.

Hope this helps!

You'll be fine - it's not really pain you are in from the incisions, it's more tenderness - like sore muscles - you won't have any trouble with anything hygiene related. I had pain medicine the day of surgery and nothing after that. I was up going to the bathroom on my own the same day and had no trouble with any issues in that area -- I took baby wipes to the hospital with me and still use them.

I didn't have any problems with that either. I think that is something that people who get the band tend to have more of a problem with because of the port area being so tender. Many of them used tongs to assist with hygiene.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
