I cant find really anything about eating Cereal post-op. I LOVE Cherioos, Rice Krispies and Smacks, and cant wait to start on some, mixed with milk of course, again. :laugh0:

Anybody here know?

Pretty high in carbs. But, I admit I have some now and then. Not till you're on a regular diet though.

It will be hard to keep to your Protein and carb guidelines if you eat a lot of cereal. It's very important to get enough Protein while on a very low calorie diet and filling up on cereal when you can't eat a lot will make it harder. You may also find that cereal isn't appealing in the early days... it can expand in your sleeve and make you uncomfortable. (Later on, the sleeve isn't as swollen, so it's less of an issue.)

Finally, you may develop lactose intolerance, making drinking milk difficult.

I used to live on cereal and milk -- sometimes I'd have it 3x a day (usually on weekends). But after I had my sleeve, I lost my taste for it. I can't drink more than 2 oz of milk at a time and, when I have cereal, I often can't get my protein in. Plus, it just doesn't taste the same. Whatever it has that used to sooth me, no longer appeals.

Some things I just stay away from, and Cereal has alot of carbs and sugars, so I don't eat it.

As Mac stated, alot of things will taste differently, and things you use to love- just not the same. I use to LOVE steak, now, not so much.

I also don't drink milk anymore.

Kinda curious as to how my labs will be this time, I'll find out in a few weeks when I go back to the doc.

Tomorrow will be 6 months for me and I can drink a tiny bit of milk but anymore than that and I am sick.

I agree with Mac. Cereal will not be a good choice because there is basically no Protein in it and a tiny bit can expand in your new stomach and will feel horrible.

I am still losing my hair, and I feel like I am losing muscle even though I work out with weights and have for the past 5 years. My skin is hanging in places it never did before, even though I have not lost anymore weight.

Keeping your Protein up in the high range is really important to prevent losing muscle and hair!

Yes, that will make you want to keep your Protein high..the thought of muscle wasting and thinning hair. None of that has happened to me, even 3 mos post-op. One week, I was really non-compliant, and ate more carbs than protein and still lost 2 lbs, but felt crappy..maybe it was 2 lbs of muscle and not fat..either way, you will feel better keeping your carbs low and protein high.

Thanks everyone! So cereal will be like a treat every now and then, if, yes, I can go back to milk products.

So far anything milky is just not wanting to settle well, it hurts! And I love yoghurt! But now even if I look at it... it makes me sick.

How else to get protien? I'm 10 days out today.

There are a lot of ways to get Protein from drinks. There are the nectar drinks that you can order online. There is a thread in the food forum on where to order samples of different kinds of Protein.< /strong>

There is also a rate your liquids thread. I wasn't allowed any mushie food for 3 weeks post op. Mine was 10 days of clear liquid, then 10 of full liquid before I could move to mushie foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
