I'm Feeling A Tight Feeling In My Chest

Recommended Posts

HI EVERYONE - I WAS JUST BANDED DOWN IN MONTERREY LAST TUESDAY - MAY 16TH. I HAVE BEEN RECOVERING THE PAST WEEK. INITIALLY FOLLOWING SURGERY, I FELT A TIGHT FEELING IN MY CHEST AND THROUGH TO MY BACK, HOWEVER, IT WENT AWAY ABOUT DAY 3 AND NOW I'M FEELING IT AGAIN - I'M STILL ABLE TO DRINK MY liquids, ETC, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS GONE FOR NOW!

ANYONE EXPERIENCE THIS TOO??

ALL THESE NEW EXPERIENCES ARE KINDA SCARY!!!

PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS!

HoneyBaby, if you are having chest pains, please call your regular doc and get to the ER. Chest pain is not normal.

(((((hugs)))))

Since you are just one week out my totally uneducated guess would be residual gas pains. I had them for about 2 weeks. I dont know how severe the pain is....but as Vines said, call your doc for reassurance. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for your replies. I did e-mail my doctor - it isn't chest pain like I probably made it sound. It is a restriction type pain where the band is. I wondered if it might still be some gas pressure hanging around in there today! They had me describe the pain and said not to worry about it??

ok, I'm glad you called and spoke with someone with a clue. (not that we don't, but we are not qualified for some things) I'm glad they told you to not worry.

The gas will slowly go away, and you will be right as rain. You might try the new GasX strips, they might help.

I had and still have a tightness in my chest, its just my bodies way of adjusting to the band, my surgeon said its normal. its not really painful just sort of a sensation that i have now that i didnt have before.

That sounds very familiar - does it feel like a giant burp is trapped somewhere with nowhere to escape? If so, it sounds like trapped gas from your surgery. I rememeber walking around feeling fine, and then suddenly being overtaken by that weird tight feeling. Still best to check with Doc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
