Welcome to VST Kym. I would suggest checking out the thread Dr. Aceves' Information - it has a great list of what to take to the hospital - even if Dr. Aceves' is not your surgeon, it will give you a good idea or at least a place to start from.

You might want to make your font larger - like a 3 - so everyone can read it - it is VERY difficult to read because it is so small. If you go into User CP and down to the very bottom on the left hand side, you can change it as your default so you don't have to change the size everytime you post. Just a suggestion!

Congratulations Kym! I didn't take much to the hospital...I think all I brought were slippers, toothbrush, dress to wear home (I had mine in the summer), and Kindle (but didn't feel like reading). I know others recommend gas x strips or something. I'm sure if you take Vegas' suggestion and look around you'll find more information.

As for the week before surgery, I was so nervous, but also excited. I just wanted it to be here so I could be on my way to a healthier life. It's almost here...less than a week away!

Good luck on your sugery!

I took way too much to the hospital, thought I'd do some reading... Yeah right. So much goes on around you, no time to read.

I was also so, so, so affraid. Really. But once I was there, my husband had left, I felt sort of a calm come over me. Like whatever was going to happen, would happen, but the procces was already started, so nothing I could do but just sit back and let it happen.

It turned out just fine, like I am sure it will for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
