When is it ok to start drinking coffee?

Recommended Posts

coffee is a diuretic therefore, you will have to increase your Fluid intake to avoid dehydration. I was a big coffee drinker prior to the sleeve and quit prior to surgery and soo glad. I don't miss it anymore and have Decaf if I must have it.

Good luck

By the 3rd mo, I was drinking over 64 oz of Water and really missed that caffeine high, but didn't want to drink the coffee..so I take one NoDoz in the am and it gets me going for and lasts the whole morning. My surgeon and NUT said it was ok, as long as you get in 64 oz of fluids per day.

Hi Vegas

why can't you have anything until mid morning? I thought that sleeve stopped that kind of problem. I had that with the band that I could not put anything hardly in my mouth until late morning coz things would get stuck.

Hi Xbander - the reason I can't eat in the morning is because I had a hiatal hernia repaired when I had my sleeve and I experience spasms - I am more restricted in the morning and things don't seem to want to go down, so I've learned that if I just stick to warm liquids until about 10 or 11 it makes the rest of the day easier.

Hi,

I am pretty normal with food now, can eat a boiled egg and some banana for Breakfast at 8 and eat it within 15 minute or less, can drink 1/2 or more cup of black coffee first thing at 6:30 as well. If I feel too full I stop until I feel a burp or two, and I have never thrown up, had food come up a bit into the esophagus, but it sldes down after a bit. I am a month out from surgery and have had no issues with food at all, am very happy with my sleeve, and feel it is doing what it is supposed to do and that is to restrict the volume of food. So guess everyone is slightly different, and you will learn what you can and cannot do.

Cheers,

Donna:001_cool:

Wow you are doing so good!! 30 pounds in a month. I wish you the best!!

Tiff

I love your answers.

They are always so informative.

Thanks so much.

Thank you for the information. I wandered about why my papers pre-op said to avoid caffinated drinks. And after surgery when they brought my tray of food, the bag of tea said decafe. I was going to go out and have tea with family tomorrow, but now I think I will start carrying bags of decaffinated tea with me and ask for a cup of hot Water and then pour it over Ice. I appreciate everyones support and comments!!

Hi,

I wasn't told not to have coffee, in fact I was given a cup of coffee on the ward the day after my surgery, and I have been having at least 3 cups per day since with no ill effects, I am 5 weeks out now, and managing quite a few normal foods in small quantities.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
