Heehee, that's funny cuz I was wondering the same thing!

I was actually going to go to the store and get a few jars of stuff for when I get back from my surgery! It makes sense to me to put baby food into our new baby stomach! =)

well hopfully we'll get some good feed back from that question...it makes perfect sence to me too.

My Dr. told me that he dosn't want me eating straight mushie carbs...so what does the mean? No mashed potatoes "I think".

Dang it, I kind liked the idea of mashed potatoes or mashed sweet potatoes. But it seems mashed Beans are better. I have so many questions about food. What and what NOT to eat....I'm hoping someone has a list of DO's and DON'T EVEN TRY IT. :biggrin0:

pureed baby foods was on my list of approved solids. However, I could not bring myself to even attempt the pureed baby food meats. No way,no how. For my mushie stage, I pureed/chopped meat in a mini food processor with either mustard or light miracle whip/mayo. Chewing is essential in the mushy stage. I ate tuna A LOT, and just chewed and chewed until it was mushy in my mouth.

I had mashed potatoes, and greek yogurt through a lot of the mushy stage as well.

AKKKK!! Yeah Tiffy, I know what you mean about the baby food pureed meats!!

My daughter will be 3 , (9 days after my surgery!) and I can still remember the texture and taste of her baby foods that I gave her.. of COURSE I had to taste what I was giving her!! LOL! I tasted everything!

I love the idea of the tuna- I could eat that no problem for quite some time!

Thanks for the tips Tiff!

That is like me and Boost or Ensure, there is no way on this green earth that I'll ever drink this stuff cause to me Boost and Ensure = old people in nursing homes. . . . nope not me! Actually I was thinking about baby foods too after my surgery and like the posts say "why not put baby food into our baby tummies?"

Hi -

Can you help me to understand this. So are you saying that chewing mushy foods is essential....as in, I would put something in the blender and puree it and then have to chew, chew, chew? Is that difficult? I'm afraid these mushies will almost slide down my throat before I want them too.

Is that easier than I think it will be?

Thanks.

I did chew and move the mushy foods around in my mouth before swallowing. That helps with the digestive process. It also allowed me to taste the food which I missed the taste of food severely through my 17 days of clears.

Chewing well through the mushy stage helps train you to eat slowly, in my opinion. It helped me get the texture of food down with zero issues.

I promise it isn't difficult. Mushy foods still need to chewed unlike clear or full liquids. I wouldn't want to swallow a bite of mashed potatoes without chewing a few times, and getting the good ole' saliva in there to start the digestive process.

You should be on liquids before you get to the mushy stage. Go to the thread that has samples you can order of Liquid Protein. A lot of people don't like the Protein Drinks that are milk based like chocolate. If you tend to go for fruity flavors, try the nectar drinks.< /strong>

Thanks. I think I'll start making more of an effort on the soft, mushy foods. I'm doing well on slowing down, stopping, chewing on the solid foods. But the soft, mushy just seem to slide down my throat. I'll make more of a conscious effort to hold them in my mouth and "play" with them a bit before they go down as a start.

I find that baby food is really bland. You don't want to be eating bland food, when you can only have a little bit. It needs to have flavour.

I am sorry Judy but I am not good with the computer to make a link. You have to go to forums, then go to the food section and there is a thread titled something like places to get samples. There is also a

rate your liquids thread in the food section too. It would be good for you to get some samples because you never know what you're going to like after surgery. That way you won't be stuck with a big tub of something you don't like.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
