New Orleanians & Neighbors?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

I just got banded 5/2/06 and I am moving to New Orleans 7/15/06. I was a self-pay patient in Kansas City. My fills are free for the first year in KC, so obviously if I can do that I'd like to. My first fill is next week, so hopefully I should be able to have 2-3 before I move, just to get a head start (especially because I have the VG Band).

However, I am looking for an alternate doctor in the New Orleans/neighboring area for fills when I can't see my regular surgeon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So anyway, there's that, and also HELLO! I'm excited to be moving to your fair state.

Hi cate! Welcome to LBT!! I had my surgery in Covington, LA, which is on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain, but my surgeon also has offices in New Orleans. His name is Dr. Thomas Lavin and he's wonderful! Of course, I'm a bit biased!! Anyway, his web site is www.whyweight.com if you wish to check out your options.

Good luck with your first fill.

Thanks, that looks great. As the date gets closer, I'll contact the office to see if they do fills for external programs and how much fills are. I just want to make sure I have options down there, in case I need a little fill, or unfill especially. And support group meetings too - woohoo!!

Thanks again

Hey Everyone.... Pfunkem, I am in Mississippi, about 1 1/2 hrs. from New Orleans. My Doctor is in Oceans Springs, Ms. http://www.smsurgeons.com, this is his website. His name is Dr. Avery. They might be able to help you if something else doesn't work out. I think all of you look great and have done a wonderful job. If y'all plan a get together let me know. I might be able to drive over if y'all want some other "Band" company!

Keep up the good work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
