help in need of serious protein ideas

Recommended Posts

Lan2K - I am the same as you. I am drinking the Odwalla Super Protein drinks, still losing weight regardless of carb count. I can't stomach ANY of the Protein whey powders and they make me dry heave and gag. I also can't have a lot of them b/c I have a shellfish allergy and most of them are processed on equipment that also processes shellfish. So I am happy I found something that I can have that also boosts my protein intake.

I also didn't get sleeved to go on a low carb diet. I understand about getting protein in first, and I do that, but I don't limit carbs after that. I know most people would disagree with me, but that's how I feel.

There is no reason at all once you are past the post op liquids only stage, that people can't get their Protein from foods. There are so many foods high in protein. The whole reason for getting sleeved is to eat like a normal person, just with smaller portions.

The Oh Yeah Protein drinks are the only ones I have found that I can tolerate - but not on a daily basis -- I drink them when I am in a rush and don't have time for food.

The DaVinci sugar free syrups are also available at Sam's Club, Smart & Final, and Albertson's if you don't want to bother with having to order them online.

I am only 16 days out but I cannot seem to get Protein in either. I am allergic to aspartame (nutrasweet) so I have much more limitations. I have tried numerous protein powders but hated them all. I do drink a cup of milk with SF Carnation Instant Breakfast drink but I can barely do one....sipping makes you notice tastes MUCH more than before! I finally found a Liquid Protein called CNP ProSlam45. It was at GNC and is a 3 oz tube of thick liquid that contains 45 grams of protein, 190 calories, on 2 carbs, 0 fats or sugars. It is not the best tasting, but easy to drink a few swallows throughout the day and get my protein in.

I'm 18 days out, and for the past three days I've got my Protein in via my food versus drinks. Yahoo! I'm averaging between 60-70 grams of protein and between 700 and 800 calories. I use greek yogurt, eggs, light string cheese, refried Beans with cheddar, tuna, and crab to get it all in. It really hasn't been difficult with a little planning. I get to introduce soft foods next week, so I will add fish and some ground meats to my variety.

I have the carnation instant breakfast on my mind. How much Protein is in one?

I think it has 5 gram of Protein - when made with 8 oz skim milk it has 13g. When I was post-op I added a little unflavored protein to it (not much - just enough to bump it to 20g).

I'm with you. In fact I can't take any artificial sweeteners either! I am not afraid of carbs like fruits and veggies but at 3 months out I still don't seem to have much room in there after eating protein first.

Have all of you that can eat thought about trying Bison (buffalo) for your Protein? It is fairly high in protein (better that ground beef) and is really lean. When cooking it, be careful to NOT overcook as it is so lean it can dry easilly. It will be one of my first go to foods when I can start eating as I am on full liquid stage now.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
