Jane_J 117 Posted October 19, 2009 Just wanted to share this with you all. I have finally solved this problem with Lactulose. It's brilliant and not really a drug so you can use it forever if you need to. 30 ml a day is all it takes. :sad0:

shanda7182 5 Posted October 19, 2009 Yes, the reason that most have not heard of lactulose is because its a drug that is used for people that have cirrhosis of the liver and it is used to remove the ammonia levels off of the brain! However, they found that it is great for Constipation as well. In the U.S., Im about 99% sure its prescription only. So just keep in mind that is usually used for removing the ammonia levels. Just FYI but I heard its GREAT for constipation, never used it but as a nurse, my patients have GREAT results! If you get my drift! LOL
Jane_J 117 Posted October 19, 2009 Hi again. I bought it over the counter in a UK pharmacy, like this Buy Lactulose Solution 500ml, ?3.99, Stool Softening Treatments Products, Online Pharmacy webpage it is freely avilable here in the UK. Looking on the web it seems that diabetics should maybe not use it, they shoudl defo talk to their doctor IMHO. Also I found this:- Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); diarrhea; high blood sugar (excessive thirst or urination, confusion, flushing, rapid breathing, or "fruity" breath odor). Having said all that I have found it a god send. I think this advice is sound:- Duphalac (lactulose)
debking811 5 Posted October 19, 2009 I found you can order it through pharmacies in canada
