Hey! Are any of you guys using the Nintendo Wii to exercise? Do you think doing it everyday is sufficient exercise? I have a Wii and the Wii Fit. It seems to be pretty good to me, but I have only used it a few times.

Also I hope to have the sleeve next week. I'll let you guys know which day it's going to be. I believe on Tuesday.

Hi Charity,

I used the Wi Fit one time at a friend's house. I liked it. Don't know of any research on its' effectiveness but there may be some out there.

Who is doing your surgery? Good luck! Keep us informed on how you are doing!

Hey Cajun! I am getting the sleeve here in Nicaragua by Dr. Jorge Gutierrez and his team of 2 other surgeons. It's cheaper than the U.S. or Mexico. I believe he is a good doctor, I hope I'm right. I haven't been able to find anything online about him, but he has been doing weight loss surgery for years. He's did a couple of people from the states, but most of the people he works with or from Central or South America. He's going to give me some references I can call.

Charity,

Long before you get to the point of surgery, just ask him..."how many sleeves surgeries have you performed"? How many leaks have you had? "other complications?".

You have a right to know and to take proper care of your body, you NEED to know. If he has done less than 300 I would not choose him as my surgeon, based on the known research outcomes.

We got the Wii Active and I really enjoy it.

It has a resistance band, and leg band. You can set different exercises or use one of the standard programs that are pre-set. I enjoy using it when I have the motivation.

I have never used the Wii Fit.

does the Wii make you sweat? that is the workout rule of thumb. Gotta get ya sweating to really get good exercise. This according to my trainer from the past.

The Wii Active will definitely make you sweat. It also counts calories burned.

My doctor told me he has been doing the sleeve since it began about 4 years ago almost on a daily basis, plus the gastric bypass, so it seems like it's did alot of them. He says he's never had a leak...

As far as the wii it does make you sweat. With the Wii fit it has all kinds of games and exercises that seem to really be a work out.

I didn't find the Wii Fit to be very good for cardio. It's not enough exercise for me. Their "jogging" isn't really running at all. I can do it forever, but I can't run forever.

At lot of people like it though. I think the game aspects make it interesting to them.

If the game aspect gets you movatited to get up and do it, that works for me. I may borrow one to see if I can get a sweat going. MacMadame: you are a hard core athlete, no little Wii game is going to work for your healthy heart. You go girl. I hope I get there even if I have to do the Wii for a few months first. I am gonna get back to riding my bike to the beach and back yet. 12 miles used to do it all the time. My goal is by next spring.

I have Wii Fit, Wii Active and Wii Zumba 2. I like wii Fit, I don't like wii EA Sports Active but I love Wii Zumba. It really makes me sweat. I love it when I get all the stars and unlock new routines.

Wii Fit is fun even though it's not quite as much of a workout, the yoga is really good when I need to stretch and the strength exercises do give a somewhat good workout. But the balance stuff is mostly just fun. Some days that's all I can make myself do so I figure that's better than nothing.

The Wii EA Sports Active is toooo boring. It's just like back in school when we had P.E. exercise class. One, two, three and one two etc. I find the remote not very good at picking up my movements in that one either without doing some extra hand flipping etc. But in Zumba it does great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
