10 days post-op - feeling bloated

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I looked for similar posts but couldn't really find my answer. I had my surgery Sept 28, did great in the hospital, and was doing well at home until last Sunday (day 7). My daughter came over for supper and to Celebrate how well I was doing, I had cream of broccoli/cheese Soup - my new gut rebelled - bloated right up, rumbled, ached, didn't sleep that night. I went right back to clears but it was still upset the next day, sore and bloated - had some diarhea and didn't sleep well that night either. Well, I am still feeling bloated and full - I can get my fluids in along with 2 Protein drinks/day and some Jello but when will this stupid feeling pass? I could kick myself for being so cocky about doing so well. My hands/feet aren't swollen so I am not retaining fluids but the scale is stuck now as well - just 2 pounds lost after getting rid of all the hospital IV weight. I am not a patient person - I want to feel better now! Any thoughts/advice, oh wise ones? Could it be a new lactose-intolerance that I hear some people have gotten?

Hey Susan,

Sorry about your tummy.

It may of been a little to early to start the full liquids for your new tummy. You are right though about the latose int. Maybe you can wait a few days and just try a bite and see how that works for you. Also try the gasX strips that melt for bloating. They helped me.

I have had diarhea off and on ever since we had to drink that nasty blue apple juice.< /span>

My new tummy does not like apple juice.

Hope you feel better soon.

Judy

Susan - I don't know what might be causing our bloating; however I would stay away from the milk products for awhile just in case it is the milk that is causing your troubles; however from Sat. to today seems a bit long. Try the gas-x and see if that makes a difference. I have also found that when I seem to be bloated a heating pad helps relieve the pain and the bloating.

Judy - the diarrhea will pass - mine lasted about a week, so it should be dissipating soon ... I don't like apple juice either!

Thanks you two - I keep forgetting about the gas-x strips - will use them today to see if that helps. The area around my new tummy is 'sore' as well, just doesn't feel 'right' - I see my pcp tomorrow so will feel better if she give me a clean bill of health. Thanks for the info - this forum is the best!

If you're still uncomfortable, ask her to do a barium swallow - if there's any leaks - which I doubt - they will show up. Keep us posted.

Might suggest gastrografin instead of barium if you are having symptoms that suggest a leak...don't want barium leaking into your abdomen! Not for use if allergic to iodine though.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
