Hello and welcome to VST. I am from Florida, but to be honest, do not know who here in our state does it, or the price. I went to Mexicali to have mine done.

I am sure some of our other members will see your post soon, and hopefully they will be able to offer some suggestions for you.

Go to the Obesity Help forum and look under bariatric surgeons. You can select the states that you are interested in and research the physicians there. Research indicates that if a surgeon has performed at least 300 sleeves, they have much more success with less complications. Be sure you choose someone who is well experienced!

Welcome Chris to the forum. I am from Indiana (Greenwood) and now live in Vegas - I don't know any surgeons in Indiana who do sleeve surgery. I was self-pay and went to Mexicali and had my surgery done by Dr. Aceves. Lots of us on here have used him; however, I am sure there are those who know of surgeons in those states.

I may be a little biased, but Texas has some of the best doctors around. I have been obsessively checking out numerous ones the past two weeks and have narrowed it down to two in the Dallas area. Dr. Nick Nicholson and Dr. James Davidson. This won't mean anything to you, but "D Magazine" is the Dallas Magazine, and every year they put out an issue with the 'Top Doctors' in the Dallas metroplex. Both of these doctors have made the list. Dr. Davidson for seventeen years, and Dr. Nicholson for the past three or four. This is a pretty good stamp of approval. The sleeve with both doctors is between $12,200 and $12,500....and that includes everything. I know with Dr. Nick, it includes appointments after surgery at six months and twelve months too. So, you can google these guys, or send me a note and I'll send you a link, they both have web sites. Good luck!! :)

Stratusphere,

I personally am going to Mexico. I am self pay and have no insurance and that's what worked out the best for me. Actually I think even if I had insurance I would still go to Dr. Aceves.

However, I have experience with Dr. Trace Curry in Cinncinnati area of Ohio... His practice is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.

I always received compassionate thorough care from his staff when I went there for aftercare of my lapband issues. http://www.thebanddoctor.com/default/about-our-practice is the link to his website...and I see he now does VSG as well.

Best of luck!

I am not sure what the private pay pricing is, but Dr. Philip Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic is doing mine. He is a pretty big shot in the industry and considered to be one of the best. He does a lot of work across the country and is a big promoter of the procedure.

I am looking at a surgeon who has done maybe 25. I don't have many local choices. 300 sounds like alot to expect. Someone had to be the first 25 or 50 so that is what I am having to decide myself if I want to be in that first group...Not an easy decision with little geographic choice.

I am using Dr. Myers at Fresh Start. They have been great, but I really doubt that he would compete financially. I remember thinking he was higher than anyone else I had looked into.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
