I am totally sold on having VSG. I also have a guy in my area that had it done with great success. So it is nice to have someone to talk to. We met at a weightloss surgery support group. Man the bypass people attacked him, it got ugly. They got so mad because he did not have all the issues that they had etc.. I found out I can get it done at a military treatment facility and I have to live there for two months after for monitoring and have to go to all the follow up appts there for a year. No big deal for me. It is only about 7 hrs away. Right now they have approved me to do it. I am just jumping through all the hoops. Going to schedule all the appts coming up here soon to get it started. I have done my refferal and pre op clearance with the pcm. They called me to today and said it was a green light.

My husband has been in the military for 21 yrs he is getting a promotion to

O-5 this summer that I am very proud of him. We have four kids and I have been homeschooling for 10 yrs. My kids are 15,10,6,5.

I only had a weight problem after I had my children and I have been struggling. I have been in to oraganic living and natural foods for 14 yrs. I juice and have a blendtec blender. I make all of our food from scratch and my husband has to watch his cholestrol and sodium because of family history. So we have a pretty bare bones diet. Very healthy and I still can't get the weight off no matter what I try. I work out three times a day. I do eat large portions since it takes a long time for me to get full and I eat fast as well and I know I need to slow down. Even when I do it is just so hard to get it off. I think I am having the surgery in Jan. Very excited!!!:001_huh:

Thank you so much! I hope to keep you posted on this journey and I am so excited for the rebirth to come. My friend had bypass and her life has been amazing 10 mo post op. She is in her 50's and she does rock climbing, paints and hikes every where. These are things she never did before.

Welcome hon! Hey, you and me are going to have our surgeries in January! I am really excited. I've been on this form since Sept and have met a lot of nice folks. Look at the photos and you'll be able to put a face to a name with some of them. . they look great! They have done so well. . . don't worry I eat really fast too, I blame that on the military (they don't eat leisurely) . We'll have to keep in touch and share our experiences as well. . :001_huh:

Eating slow and chewing chewing chewing is difficult to get used to at first - however it's something you REALLY need to focus on -- start now before your surgery. Take small bites, put your fork down in between every meal and chew at least 30 times before swallowing. Also, practice not drinking with your meals or for 45 minutes thereafter. It takes 30 days to become a habit so they say, and since your surgery is more than 30 days away you have time to make it a habit and won't struggle during recovery.

Lizabe, welcome! We are glad you decided to join us.

I am curious about what you said regarding having to live in the treatment facility for two months after getting your sleeve. I have never heard of that before. Why do they require that?

:scared0:Guess what! I loved your idea of trying to change my fast speeding habit of eating and to chew slowly at least 30 times before swallowing. . I vomited:tongue2:. It was so liquidy and mushie OMG!!!!! it's going to be tough for me. . . but what a wonderful idea! I'm really going to try hard cause I see it's going to take a lot of changing on my part! Thanks for that great idea!!!!!

Oh I'm so sorry you had that reaction -- maybe 30 times is too much - try 20 and see if that makes things better -- the big thing is is to eat slowly (thus putting the fork down between each bite) eat small bites and chew it alot (but maybe 30 times was too much) sorry my idea made you vomit - that's not pleasant!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
