Surgeons in North Carolina

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of sleeve surgeons in NC? So far I've only found one, in Charlotte, Dr. Voellinger. Has anyone had any experience with him?

I am also looking into North Carolina surgeons. I live in the triangle area and I think I will have to travel to Charlotte. From what I've read on the message boards, Voellinger is the way to go. I believe there are two others but I can't recall their names at the moment. However I don't think they don't have as much experience (possibly why I didn't bother to commit them to memory). According to ObesityHelp, Voellinger has the most years of experience and has done the most VSG's in the area. If you come across another experience surgeon please pass the info! Thanks and good luck!

Hello Ladies. My name is Laura and I will be sleeved on the 27th of January. Dr. Pirrello is doing my procedure at Presbyterian Matthews. I love him and his staff. It's nice to walk in a doctors office and they know you be first name. It's worth taking a look at. Wish you the very best on your WLS.

Edie~

My procedure went very well. Dr. P is by far the best physician I have ever had. I went in for surgery early Wednesday 1/27. I was up walking to the bathroom in recovery. Don't get me wrong, I had a little help, but couldn't stand using the bed pan. So I got up and walked (with nurse assistance) to the bathroom. I was home Thursday night. The staff at Presbyterian Bariatric (Dr. Pirello's office) are great. They were very helpful and supportive right from the beginning. They are all so personable. It's a great feeling to know when you walk in they will call you by your first name. I am 15 weeks out and down 63 pounds. I am not sure how many sleeves he's performed, he was in Concord before he started at Prebyterian. I may have been one of the first few he performed at Presbyterian-Matthews. Either way, I would do it over and over and recommend Dr. P anytime. He and his staff are great. Good luck and please keep me posted. I am here for support if needed.

Thanks,

Laura

I'm pretty sure my surgeon... Ryan Heider in Mooresville, NC has actually performed the most VSGs of any North Carolina bariatric surgeon. That's the biggest reason I chose him. He's fantastic! He is one of the nicest and most down to earth doctors I have ever met. He works out of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. My experience with him has been great so far! The before care, surgery, and aftercare have all been really wonderful. They also have an excellent nutritionist and nurse that you get to work with along the way. Highly recommend him and the Center for Surgical Weight Loss!

Their website is: Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Lake Norman

:thumbup:Dr. Michael Tyner in Cary, NC.

He has performed two surgeries on me in the last few years....hiatal hernia and gallbladder surgery. I just can not say enough good things about him....good surgeon and good beside manner. I am now going through the process of getting the vsg by him.

I'm a patient of Dr. Bruce. He works with Dr. Tyner and Dr. Enochs in Cary, and also in Burlington. Great surgeon, always takes great care of the patients on our floor (we have all the bariatric surgery patients on our floor).

Jon Michael BRUCE of NC Bariactric Specialists did my Sleeve on August 9th of this year - I LOVE HIM - his office was great... I had my first appt with him on July 18, then three weeks later I had my surgery.

I am almost five months out and have lost over 50 pounds - they have a great support group meeting once a month complete with clothing swaps and a nutrionist...

I HIGHLY recommend this office

I had a sleeve done 12/21 by Dr. Pirrilo, I'm just 2 weeks out, I too think Dr. Pirillo is great , and everyone on his staff , has been so helpful, mine was done at Presbyterian Charlotte, had to do it at the main, because of insurance, my experience with all the steps you have to do, they have helped all the way through! And the Presbyterian Hospital was great to!, everyone is very supportive. I hope your experience is also as good as mine was, absolutely no complaints, hardly any pain,, love Dr. Pirillo!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
