HI

I had mine done on Sept 24 with Dr Ariel Ortiz in Mexico Tiguana. His team is very good. Lots of Canadians have gone to him as well.

The cost is about 6500.00 depending on individual size.

Hi, I was sleeved in Tijuana, MX by Dr Cabrerra and had a wonderful time coming & going. No complications etc. The Dr & his team were great. I went through Medical Tourism, contacted them on Sept 5th & had my surgery on Sept 26th. Best decision I ever made. They had a special on for $4500- , I had to pay extra due to a high BMI, an extra $1000- to have a second Dr assisting with the surgery but it was all well worth it to me :)

Im from AB, I was sleeved on Oct 20 in Puerto Vallarta with Dr Lopez. Everything went great, the hopsital is amazing, the hotel is very nice. Only problem I had was heartburn after but that went away with meds. Everybody was so nice. So far lost a total of 21 lbs.

Hi Bos

Good look not much longer for you. I am doing great. I have lost 17 pounds since surgery not too fast, but still happy with it. Lost another 22 on the preop diet. I have had my Doctor here take a blood test for my counts such as vit D, Calcium, Iron etc and all came back normal. The only supplements I have been taking is a multi vit and B12. Feel great. Keep me posted on how it goes for you.

Nice to meet you Buffy and Jordan:) were you guys nervous at all about complications while down there at all? I've looked for insurance just incase but can't find any lol. I know crazy but I'm a worry wart! Also just out of curiousity, did you guys contemplate others surgeries? Like the plication? Just wondering what made you guys finally decide the sleeve?

Hi Bos

I couldnt find any insurance company that would cover surgery. I have my regular travel insurance for other stuff outside of surgery. BC medical plan has a coverage up to $300,000 for out of country as well. I just went and hoped for the best. But I wasnt that worried as I had only heard good things about this clinic and personally I have had other surgery's that I survived so I wasnt too worried but anethesia. Most problems from surgery occur from infections or other health issues. This clinic is very good at checking health problems and is very clean so I felt confident about that.

I originally considered the lap band but upon research I discovered most people a few yrs down the road had problems and usually had to have it removed. I also looked into the plication as well, but again it was simplier at the the get go but down the road seems to have a few problems. I was looking mostly for the one shot deal, so I wanted no problems down the road or any reason that I would require additional surgeries, the sleeve seemed to have the best results, so I chose that one. But I guess only time will tell for sure. Good Luck and dont worry you will be ok.

My friend and I went to Mexico to Dr Filipe Garcia to have VS. We are from Toronto and London. We had a great experience. We said we went to San Diego but coming back, we said it was medical reason and went to TJ. We had no problems. We actually were secheduled to go to Dr Fernando Garcia but out bad experience forced us to change a doctor and go to another same day.

No i was not nervous, I did not choose the other dr because he was more money. Now I know why. One or two patients a day and takes his time and after care is amazing!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
