Bad fill experience

Recommended Posts

I had an appointment today to get a fill for the first time in the doctors office. I was hesitant because the last fill I had at the hospital under the floriscope the doctor had to stick me twice to find the port opening. I remember when I had my first fill (this was to be my 3rd fill) he said "my band was slightly twisted", which he said should cause no problems".

I've had no problems so far so I figured he was right.

Well today in his office he poked and poked me until I was in amazing pain and I almost fainted (In all honesty I don't take pain well at all).

I haven't had a fill since february and I am not loosing weight and now I probelby have to wait another 6 weeks to get another appointment with him because he is so over booked as it is.

I feel very sad with the whole lap-band experience from the start and now I'm scared as hell to get another fill.

I feel bad for you that you've had such a hard time with fills - but you have to realize that the entire surgery process is just not enough for most poeple to lose weight - you need to get fills to get to the spot that's right for your body.

I'd suggest scheduling that appointment, whenever it ends up being, and talking to the doctor before he does anything about your concerns. Remind him what happened the last time, find out if he should maybe do your fill under floro, so he can actually see the port, and hit it correctly the first time.

Also, sometimes they'll give you a bit of numbing medication before hand - ask if this is an option, again reminding him how much pain you had last time.

The band won't work unless we use it as it's supposed to be used, and that includes fills.

Hope this is helpful!!

Ouch, sorry you had that experience. All my fills have been in the dr office with no problems. JillN had some great advice, check on the numbing med or using the flurio again.

That really sucks. If your port is twisted (which I assume he meant when he said your band was twisted), that's an easy out patient surgery to adjust it, and then you might have an easier time getting fills.

Alternately, you might consider seeing if someone else who is more intuned to you could do your fills.

*hugs*

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
