20 pounds in 2 weeks, but I'm miserable....

Recommended Posts

I have a clot... a DTV. . And I can't get up and around for more than 5 minutes at a time without the pain in my leg sending me back to the bed or the couch.

What good is it going to be to be skinny if I can't do my stuff?

I've been shooitng myself up with Lovenox, 140mg twice a day, since Wednesday, and yesterday I started on oral coumadin. . . but this is to pevent future clots.

As far as I can tell, no one is giving me any hints on how to get the current clot to let my leg loose so I can get on with my life.

Sorry to be such a moany-joany, but I'm feeling kind of sorry for myself today and I know that here I might get some info & encouragement.:sad0:

I thought they had to surgically remove it so it didnt go to your heart?

If that's so, no one mentioned it to me.

I thought that all the blood thinners you got IV while in the hosp were to dissolve the clot?

I thought any clot was bad because at anytime it can break loose and go either to your heart or brain. Either one is not good. I am not a Doctor so don't take me as an authority, but I am pretty sure this is serious.

That would have been my thought as well but my sister has a blood clot in her lung and she is taking coumadin to dissolve it. They said she may have to stay on it for 1-2 years.

Umm wow.

I am in awe that you don't have a treatment plan from the doctor. Did they not explain how they planned on treating the clot? Did you get anything to disolve it?

That's just it. I have the impression that they think it will dissolve of it's own accord... eventually. It's how long that's giving me a problem. I can't schedule anything, and I have things that I would really like to start doing myself, but just can't for the pain. It's pretty frustrating.

Sheesh, I thought a blood clot was always a medical emergency and that if it wasnt surgically removed post haste, you certainly wouldnt be allowed home to walk around with it! You'd be in bed, being medicated and monitored!

It may be in a superficial vein, and if so, not such an emergency. Still not fun!

I don't know the particulars.

Ann, I'm sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble.

Can you call the Dr. and tell hin about the pain and ask how long this will last? If you don't get the right answers call for a second opinion or go to the emergency room. Keep us posted.

I had my clot in '80 and a lot has changed since then. In my case, they put me on an IV with heperin for 11 days and I had to stay in the hospital the entire time. Then they moved me to coumidin and released me and I had to stay on coumidin for a while. Months, though, not years.

But mine was also in my lungs, not my legs and I don't think they make you stay in the hospital the whole time these days, either. It really was kind of a waste for me to be there 11 days. I felt fine after about 1-2 days of being hooked up to heperin. So I wasn't sick but I was stuck in the hospital. It was quite annoying, actually.

What is happening with your clot?

Well, It's still there. The Docs say it might take weeks to months to clear up even after I get my blood thickness reading up to "between 2 and 3". I'm making do by taking a couple of pain pills before I have to leave the house to do anything, but I'm still pretty uncomfortable.. I'm not getting the excercise that I ought to be post-op.. but I have lost nearlyy 25 lbs since my surgery, so THAT'S good. . .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
