Has Dr. Alvarez had any VSG Leaks?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm *New* to this, I have been Researching VSG For over 6months. I Live in TX, and the Bariatric Surgeons here have done a Hundred or Less VSG's.

So I'm all for going to Mexico, I Want Experience, and a Knowledgeable Surgeon. Someone who is interested in my Well Being and NOT Just my $Ten Grand!!!

So I Really, Really, Like Dr. Acceves in Mexicalli.

I Have already filled out the Forms, and read the Patient Info, Etc.

But My Surgery wont be able to be until Early December. Due to my Crazy Work Schedule.

I'm in TX, and it would be much Closer to go to Dr. Alvarez. But I Don't seem to find Many of his Patients on here?

So Does any one have Info on Dr. Alvarez?

Has anyone heard anything Negative?

Thanks...:001_cool:

Welcome to our family and congratulations on making your decision. I have read things on here about Dr. Alvarez, but truthfully, I can't remember if it was good or bad -- you might try doing a search of all posts or threads with "Alvarez" as the topic - it will bring up all posts with his name in it and you can read the ones that are pertinent.

Yes, he's had leaks. He's also had a death.

If you wanted to stay closer to home, there are several bariatric surgeons in Dallas who have a lot of experience doing sleeves. The "package deal" fee most are charging here is around $12,500. Sounds like, though, you have made your decision and feel comfortable with going to Dr. Aceves.

Wishing you the very best~~

I know he's being sued due to a death that happened as the result of a leak. I know, if you ask, they will tell you it wasn't a sleeve leak but a complication of a hiatal hernia repair.

I think that's crazy... the hernia repair is much simpler than the sleeve and having a death from one make you look worse than having a death from a leak IMO. But apparently they think it makes them able to say they never had a death from doing a sleeve. Um, he gave a guy a sleeve and the guy died. That's a sleeve death.

A death is a death. It happens. Not very often, but it does. I think someone reputable would own up to it and they do not. (People has asked about his mortality rate and been told he has no deaths.)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
