There are quite a few people that has had the band done where I work. They are all happy with the results so far.

I had my band done June 2 by Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey and am very happy and in size 8's now. Made my goal the first part of Dec. My birthday.

I am older than most of you -68- and had no problems whatsoever, it has helped me enjoy life a lot more, no more "pleasingly plump"! I even joined a singles club that I wouldn't pre band.

I think the band with pretty much of a South Beach diet is a win win combination. It's all Portion Control and eating healthy. I have my treats and chocolate but in moderation.

I live in Lancaster.

Glad to hear you are scheduled for 2/20/07. How long did it take from consulation date to scheduling procedure?

I had my consultation on January 24th. I have seen my primary care doctor, requested medical records, had lab work, and scheduled chest x-ray. They said it could take up to 6 weeks for an approval from the insurance company.

Going to be moving to Highland Village/Lewisville/Double Oak area within the next year it looks like.

I live right off 407 which divides Highland Village and Flower Mound. I love it there. I have only lived out there 2.5 yrs now.

I actually scheduled everything at once when I recieved the approval from my insurance. My insurance approved me based on an application. I have my appointments on Thursday. My surgery is the Tuesday after. It seems that my doctor and insurance company are very different from everyone elses. I have United Health Care of Texas and Carter Lap Band Center is doing the surgery. Unlike others on the forum, I am not required to have a certain diet prior to my surgery, except the day before the surgery. Has anyone else had this experience?

I have heard of a lucky few not having a particular pre-op diet. Lucky, lucky you!

For you the hardest part will be the 2-3 weeks after you feel better from surgery, but before you get your first fill... unless you are REALLY lucky and have restriction right away.

Maybe your luck will hold.

Enjoy!

I hate to be negative, but I don't think the doctor's failure to have you on a pre-op diet is a plus. The diet, as I understand, is mostly to help shrink your liver, making it easier on you. I guess that doesn't matter to some surgeons.

I don't consider it a plus or a minus. It is whatever the doctor is most comfortable with. I personally was not on one and did fine.

I thought it was weird too after I started reading everyone's posts. I haven't had the chance to ask him why yet. I go to see him on Thursday. I am kinda worried about my liver being damaged during surgery.

I have my final list of questions to ask him. I am very nervous. I know that it will be worth it in the end, but getting there is going to be more than half the fun!!!! :speechles

If you are concerned, you can always do your own pre-op diet. My doc put me on SouthBeach phase 1 - almost no carbs.

I opted to go to liquids only for two days prior to surgery - just to get that last rush AND to empty out the whole system.

If your doc isn't concerned about a fatty liver, he might not feel that you NEEDED to be on a pre-op diet.

As I said, you aren't the only one who didn't have a pre-op diet. I haven't heard any horror stories about not being on one, except for the problems that can happen with a fatty liver.

If you don't have a fatty liver, you shouldn't have any problems.

Don't worry too much.

Hugs!

It's not the doctor's comfort we're concerned with here. It's the patient's. That's what the diet is for, not the doctor.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I just haven't heard that not having a pre-op diet is more harmful or hurtful to the patients. Would love to see studies or facts if you have them. I say the doctor's comfort level meaning confidence level - sorry if I used the wrong verbaige) because that is my understanding some doctors prefer it because they find it easier to operate. My doctor says their is not a significant difference to warrent it. That's all I was trying to say.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
