Jagator88 1 Posted August 31, 2009 To help ensure no problems I would have the hiatal hernia taken care of prior to wls. It seems every problem I have read about had a hernia involved. I know it was the core of my issues.
Jane_J 117 Posted August 31, 2009 Totally understood - now the dr's office has told me that insurance probably won't cover anything, because at my highest weight, I had a BMI of 39 and no comobidities. If I had a BMI of 40, it would have been fine. How crazy is that? Next time you go to the doctors put some lead weights in your pockets. Complain of being breathless when you exercise, wheeze a bit, and also claim lower back pain. Just a thought :drool5:
austinglobe 0 Posted August 31, 2009 My BMI is 35 now - but if only I had thought of it then:) They want to know the highest BMI I was in the last 10 years.
MacMadame 81 Posted September 1, 2009 Duodenal switch is the first part to the sleeve. Psst. It's the other way around: VSG is the first part of the DS.

ash 5 Posted September 2, 2009 I had a surprise hiatal hernia repair during my surgery and have not had ANY problems. Go for the sleeve. So worth it.
Cheri_S 1 Posted September 2, 2009 I am also a self pay, our insurance wouldn't cover any weight loss surgery no matter how many co morbities I had. So I found a surgeon and care credit.com and just did the sleeve. Its been 2 weeks and I'm so happy I decided to go with the sleeve, its the best decision I have ever made!!!
