10 days post op with a SHORT fuse!

Recommended Posts

IDK if this is what others experience, but since surgery I have had the shortest anger fuse ever! I used to be very laid back, easy going, not much rattled my cage, but after the surgery - wow, I'm ready to take anyone/everyone's head off with one bite! There was an incident in the grocery store where this guy in line behind me was standing too close and crowding me for no reason. It was all I could do to keep from turning around and telling him to BACK THE F off!! That's how reactionary I've become. At first I thought maybe it was hormones, and maybe it is, but I have zero patience with people these days which makes me almost leery of going out in public. My nice-attude has turned into piss-attude, know what I mean?! Anyone else experience this, or is this just me?:sneaky2: I got a PAST DUE bill in the mail today which of course is a mistake as I never got the original bill. I called the bookkeeper loaded for bear! She didn't answer so I unloaded on her via voice mail. I'm scaring myself!

I honestly wonder if this is just because you are consuming less calories? To your body it is just like skipping a meal. I know I get grouchy if I miss lunch.< /p>

/ It's more than that; it's like major PMSing which I was never prone to before.

Your body is going through so many changes right now, and your hormones are probably all over the place as well. Not to mention, you are probably tired of the post-op diet and still in the recovery phase. I wouldn't worry too much, I am sure you will be back to your old self in no time.

I did go through it, for about three weeks. My prozac couldn't touch my moodiness.

I think a lot of times when we are under stress, we get a little edgy. Even if post-surgery is going well, all the changes are bound to be stressful IMO.

Thanks you guys and Susan. Appreciate knowing it's not just me.

BTW, when I broke my leg in 1998 and had to have surgery to repair it, I was crying every day after about 5 days post-op. IMHO our body needs to release the trauma in some manner, and crying just seems to be the way it does it at least in women. Don't know about men. I don't think it has anything to do with food, just with trauma.:)

:) So far, so good but the day is young yet and I do have to go to the grocery store. God help 'em!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
