question about things that expand in your tummy

Recommended Posts

I know it's white rice and things like that, but what about dumplings? Not sure what they are made out of.

What kind of dumplings? Like chicken and dumplings, or chinese dumplings?

Chicken and dumplings - the dumplings are typically made from biscuits which can expand in the tummy, or from a self-rising white flour/water mixture.

Chinese dumplings - I don't know what they are made out of, but I'm sure it's some type of dough.

I can eat about 1/3 of an eggroll including the outershell, and 1/2 of the inside of one without the outershell. I've eaten tiny bites of biscuit with a bit of gravy, and did just fine.

Oh sorry, I meant chinese dumplings. I had 4 (they were pretty small) with NO pain or discomfort. I'm in the soft food stage and this is the first thing I've tried that didn't give me some kind of pain! Problem is, I'd love to eat the other 4. ;-)

I thought all dumplings, Chinese included, were made mostly from flour. Pretty much anything with flour seems to get in the tummy and expand, at least for me it does.

I also think they are not complex carbs, but the kind that are digested quickly, like sugar. I wonder if they would cause a rebound hunger an hour later. I'm going to try to stay away from white carbs, which is something I've had to do all my life. If I look at bread, I gain a pound! Same with corn, peas, etc. When I crave carbs, I go for Beans, which are acomplex carb and high in Protein.< /p>

Unfortunately, I have not had a problem eating ANYTHING, which could be very bad. Went to a friend's for dinner last night and had 3 small sweet potato fries, a few bites of salad, and some grilled chicken. I left a lot on my plate and wanted to eat more. But, I couldn't and I'm glad about that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
