Gastric Bypass Surgery Complete ;-)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that my surgery was on Monday August 3rd. I'm 6 days post op and I'm really doing well. There were no complications and I'm drinking my Water like a Pro! I also get mushies but very very tiny amounts.

I asked the doctor if I could have my Lap Band once he removed it since I had bought and paid for it, but due to Govt. Regulations he had to destroy the band.

Hope your all doing well.

Lisa B

Hi Lisa, glad to hear everything went well for you. That stinks about not being able to keep your band. Dr. Aceves gave me my band and port. I have it in a plastic bag in my drawer and am trying to decide what I want to do with it. I am thinking burning it might be a good idea!

thanks for keeping us updated Lisa. I am glad to hear you're doing so well.

I have my band in a plastic bag on my dresser. I like looking at it now and then, and being glad it's not in my body anymore.

All I asked my doc to keep was the part of my stomach he removed. I wanted to put it in a jar so I can keep it next to my 40+ year old tonsils. He said no. What a meanie! Figured I could take it to school for show and tell like I did with my tonsils. No sense of fun! :sneaky2:

Am glad to hear you're doing well. Curious: what is the difference between my sleeve and a gastric bypass?

Curious: what is the difference between my sleeve and a gastric bypass?

It's my understanding that the sleeve removes a protion of your stomach and the gastric bypass they make your stomach smaller and reroute your intestines somehow ... I'm sure someone will explain it much better than me.:001_rolleyes:

OK! got it. Thanks, Mac. Had a person giving me an earful because I "only" had the sleeve and not the "full" duodenal switch. I am pleased and happy with my decision even more now after seeing the comparisons.

Interesting someone would feel the need to give you an earful about the choice you made that was right for your body.

No, no, you don't understand... .DS is the THE BEST SURGERY. For everyone! We VSG people are self-deluded losers who will not lose all our weight or will gain it all back!!!!1!

Well, that's how some DSers talk anyway.

I say the ones like that have "drunk the koolaid" because they aren't remotely rational about it. For example, I got into with one of them on OH and said that I don't have diabetes and that I lots all my excess weight so the DS would not have bought me anything but increased risks. To which she responded, if you had the DS you would have lost more of your excess weight! Um, how can I lose more than ALL OF IT?!?! Moron.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
