Did you eat too much? When I was first starting out, a couple of bites is all I could handle.

how long ago did you eat and how much. Your first pureed meal was a bit hard to digest. Try something lighter next time and work your way up

I thought for it to be pureed, it's supposed to be actually blended - like in a blender. Maybe chopping it up wasn't enough?

(The programs are all different on this one though so maybe your program allows chopped up stuff as a puree?)

I thought if you were having appendix problems, the pain was in the lower right side?

Well obviously I have no idea where your appendix is located then ... *shrugs* ... was just a thought .. a bad one I guess - :crying:

Yea, I had my appendix out and it's the lower right side.

Some people have to go through the food stages slower as their body heals slower.

Hi

I agree with MacMadame. Your first stage is food that has been blended in a blended. Remember what it is like to wean a baby. The first stages is like a thick liquid, then you can move onto small lumps by around week 5ish. I too have a pain in my lower left side a lot...maybe it is the excess gases from the op still there? Doc told me not to worry and things would die down after a bit. Remember you have just been through a huge ordeal!

Hope this helps

This info. helps me too. I'm new to this blog today. I am almost 3 weeks post-op and I think I am going to have to slow down on the transition to solids. I think I kinda skipped the 'mushies' stage and tried to eat things that are a little too hard on my 'new' stomach. Still lot's of gas and pain, so this makes sense...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
