Why no water with meals?

Recommended Posts

I've heard two things:

1) It fills up your stomach and you need the room for nutrition.

2) It washes the food through, making you eat more.

Okay, which is it??

It's actually both. Sometimes I just can't stand it though. I get so thirsty, I have to have a sip of Water when I eat.

Also, at least in the early days:

#3. It hurts.

My husband's information book from his surgeon says that it pushes the food through too fast and that it could possibly stretch the sleeve. So it's probably a combination of all these things.

Yes, it hurts because there isn't room. It hurts the same way that eating too much food hurts.

It doesn't really "push through" the food. That's a RnY thing because they have no pylorus valve. However, the pylorus valve is designed to open up when liquid and mush hits it. Adding Water to your food turns it to mush faster so the pylorus valve opens up faster.

This was true pre-op as well. My son, who is underweight, constantly gives his dad a hard time about drinking with dinner. He says the only reason to do that is to fit in more food. Smart boy. :001_smile:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
