Just thought I'd post and say hi.

Husband and I are both doing this (well, pending insurance approval). My primary insurance doesnt do Lap Band, but WV Medicaid *just* started to, and we have medical cards until the end of July. We're going to be our doctor's first Medicaid bands, actually.

We've done all the testing. All we're waiting on now is the psych report, then they will get on the phone with Medicaid and get it approved. From what the doc's office has told me, the approval will be the easiest part.

Then I have to get my gall bladder out about a week before the big surgery.

Husband has about 150 to lose (he can probably get away with less because he is a BIG guy and really tall). Most docs would say I "need" to lose about 180 but I'd be happy with around 130.

Husband's still in college; I'm a welfare caseworker (so if anyone in WV has Medicaid questions, I'm your girl). We have a 5 year old daughter who, thank God, ended up with skinny genes and didn't get our body types.

So yeah -- that's about it.

Welcome to LBT Jennie!!! It's nice to have you here to share in your journey. This is a wonderful community full of information & support. I hope you get quick approval for yourself and your DH. My DH is getting the band sometime next year.

BTW, even though I was born in OH, I have 100% WV blood running through my veins. Very proud to say both of my parents are from the Spencer, WV area. Most of my extended family still lives in the area and we visit when we can. Such a beautiful place!!

Again, welcome to LBT!!!

:welcome:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
